Literary Luminary

1) These paragraphs were interesting and important because it told us that it is much easier for Caddie to be a tomboy (synonym. energetic) than to be a lady. Being a lady is just uncomfortable and hard for her.

p.5; 3rd-5th paragraph

2) This text was interesting and funny how the Indians were so interested in the children's red hair. I also felt tat their minds are very wide-eyed and naive. It was also funny when they were all crowded around the pale skinned, red headed people, until they got whatever and was satisfied.

3) This part was interesting and important because now we know why and how she became a tomboy, and why father was watching Caddie with a little shine of pride in his eyes when mother and Clara (Caddies' older sister) sighed.

4) These paragraphs were funny because when Uncle Edmund was saying hi to everybody, he also called Caddie and Warren (Caddie's 9 year old (2 years younger than Caddie) little brother) who were not suppose to be here. It was funny and cute how when Woodlawns turned around and Caddie and Warren were just grinning on Betsy (one of their horses)'s back. It tells us that they really wanted to see Uncle Edmund and his visits are important.

Today's Meeting

Our discussion was very fun just like Andrea said. It was very cool how we were discussing about the book that we actually prepared for our roles. Celine (Discussion Director) was asking questions to keep to discussion going and Ellie (Summarizer) explained to/reminded us one more time about what happened in the book so far. We read the sections of the book that I chose to discuss about and it was very fun because we got to share our opinions and thoughts (we also had a little debate :o).

Summary:
Caddie, Tom and Warren go accros the river to see what the Indians are doing. They watched eagerly as Indian John makes his cannoe. On the way home Caddie spots a hazelnut bush. All three children gather as many nuts as they can. Tom and Warren went home with full pockets but Caddie stays to fill her skin. When she gets home she finds out they have a visitor and she is late for supper. When the pigeons fligh over she decides not to go and shoot them although she loves to hunt. After the birds leave the Woodlawn family get a letter telling them that Uncle Edmund will come soon. Only Tom and Clara are allowed to go. Caddie and Warren ride Betsy to meat the steamer. When they greet Uncle Edmund he gives Caddie a book. When she opens it a clock spring springs out. "Say Uncle Edmund," cried Tom, "you'd ought to know that you can't fool Caddie on snakes or click springs. Try that on Hetty."

Key Points:
1. Caddie Woodlawn is a tomboy. She loves to go out with the boys.
2. The story is during the civil war. Caddie's father would fight in it but because of his family he paid someone to go fight instead of him.
3. Coming late to supper is unexceptible.
4. Every body loves Uncle Edmund.
5. Caddie loves clocks.

The Egypt Game

I am reading The Egypt Game.
For today we were supposed to read 2 chapters, and for next day 5 we will read 4 chapters.
My job for today was the discussion director.
Some of the questions  I asked were:

1. Why couldn't the African-American boy get to the other side of the fence? My answer to the question: The African-American boy could not get to the other side of the fence because the he was holding onto his octopus toy.
2. What did April think she was in the "past life"? My answer to the question: In her past life, April thought she was an Egyptian priestess.
3. Which goddess was mentioned in chapter 1? My answer to the question: The goddess that was mentioned in chapter 1 was Nefertiti.
4. Why did April want to spend her money right away? My answer to the question: April wanted to spend the money right away so her grandma doesn't waist it on"nothing".
5. What do other people think about April's idea about reincarnation? My answer to the question: The people thought the idea about reincarnation was crazy and nuts!

I really wasnt here but my group members helped me catch uo on this.

We are reading chapter 4 now. I chose to be  the conector for this chaoter because I am good at relating to other things that are happening outside the book. This class we were recording ourselves reading and disscussing the chapter/s. It was really cool. What was really imortant was that we all worked together and that it was cool how all four of us read in the same time :) !

My job was to connect this book to the real world. I wrote about how kids that don't have parents or there parents didn't want them just want attention like Hollis. Her way of getting attention is by running away but that is also her way of getting away to a new family.Some kids like Hollis also just might not want attention and want to be alone. When Hollis runs away she goes to see movies or if its nice weather she does to the park. At night she sleeps under the board walk and it would take them days to find her. Now she got a new family well actually only her and a woman named Josie. She is wondering if she is going to run away for some reason but this is the first place she actually likes.
For next day 5 we will read 3 chapter 32 pages.

The Phantom Tollbooth

I am reading "The Phantom Tollbooth" with my literature circle group. We made a group decision of reading 32 pages every week because 32 pages is 1 eighth of the book, and we have 8 weeks to read the book. My job was was being the Summarizer for our literature circle. As Summarizer I wrote about the book and what happened so far. I wrote about Milo, a bored kid with nothing special in his life. He is always looking for adventure and excitement. He hates school, especially math class, because he feels that school is boring. Milo thinks everything is boring. But 1 day Milo found a package on his bed after school. There was no return address and he was bored (as usual) so he opened it. Inside was a toy Phantom Tollbooth. But when he started playing with it he found out it wasn't a toy and started traveling through time, with a mission to reach 1 location.
