In the book "Smokey The Cowhorse"i think the external conflict is between Clint the cowboy and Smokey the horse.the conflict is that Clint is bracing Smokey's spirit and turn him into a working ranch horse.I think that Clint will find a way to breaking Smokey's spirit without hurting him.Clint is tacking it slow with Smokey but Smokey is fighting to get free.
