My book is: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
The main
conflict is between Capetian Nemo and "that hated nation," whose ships he
rams and sinks. In recent years, people have read in Jules Verne's
publisher's files that the "hated nation" was Russia, and that Capt.
Nemo was a Pole who was avenging his country for suppressing Polish
uprisings in 1830 and 1848. The publisher urged Verne to leave that part
out of the book so not to offend readers anyway.
