There are many different awards awarded to writers each year. One very recognized award for children’s books in United States is the Newbery Medal. This award is given out by the American Library Association. Although American, the award got its name after the British bookseller John Newbery.

This year the Newbery Medal was awarded to Jack Gantos for the book “Dead End in Norvelt”. The book is comic and it emphasizes importance of studying history and reading.
