Bridge To Terabithia - Katherine Paterson

The main protagonist is a boy called Jess. He is a lovable, hard-working boy who ever since he was little loved to draw. He dreams about being the fastest runner in his grade and the whole school. His motivation for being the fastest runner started when he won the race and was the winner for one day and a half. Now he wanted it to last for much longer. He practices really hard each morning in order to achieve. In the house where he lives there are five more people, his mom and his four sisters, out of wich two are older than him. He is not treted so well by his two older sisters, while his yonger sister worships him. His dad is almost always absent traveling for work and back and exhausted from hard work. All the children except the baby have to help their mother with the household, planting and picking beans and putting them into cans. Unlike her children  their mother rearely did anthing and had a very bad tempor. She often yelled at them saying they were lazy.
Jess felt very lonley as if he had nodody to talk to. It bothered him he was practicaly the only man in the family because his father was never at home, even in the rare moments when he was he never had any understanding nor signs of affections for his only son. It was just the opposite, he always criticized him. For example when he told his father he wanted to become an artist his father was not supportive nor happy. Jess felt nobody in his family, not even the whole world understands him exept for Miss Edmunds his music teacher. She admired his unusual animal drawings, supported him and told him to keep it up. She was the only person Jess felt connected to. He was in love with her. He also liked the fact Miss Edmunds was unique and different from everybody else.
