Title: Elijah of Buxton

Author: Christopher Paul Curtis

Pages:341

Blog post #7

I am still reading the book "Elijah of Buxton". My favorite part is when Mr.Travis (Elijah's school teacher) goes crazy and almost rips out Cooters (Elijah's best friend) ear for no reason at all. I found this part the most interesting because a normal teacher would never harm his/her students physically. I would recommend this book to anyone in my class. I think it would be enjoyed by many because it has really funny and crazy parts.

Dead End in Norvelt

By: Jack Gantos; Pages: 341

In my book Dead End in Norvelt a boy named Jack Gantos has his plans of an adventures summer when he gets grounded and is forced to do unusual and illegal chores for an elderly neighbor named Miss Volker. What I read this week was chapter 23. In this chapter Jack is worried that his father gave Mrs. Vinyl a heart attack by driving his plain. Miss Volker assures Jack that she is fine, and has talked to her afterwards while eating one of Jack´s mom´s casseroles, but she was still concerned so she asked Jack to pay her a visit. And unfortunately, she was dead. It looked like she died while having a midnight snack. And in the fridge there was 1 of Jack´s mom´s casseroles.
holes By: louis sacher.

the theme of this story is: Sometimes even the guy in charge is up to no good.
two examples to support the theme would be.....
Ex.1: The only reason the warden made they boys dig holes was to find the treasure not cause digging holes builds character (which in my, anyone's, or even the wardens point of
view makes no sense)
Even after it was proved that the suit case filled with treasure belonged to Stanley the warden still accused them of lying (in her desperation caused by greed, greed , and more greed.
i was not able to come across any quotes in this story has attempted to imply and if so failed to imply them.

The theme of the story is slavery. I got this from page 98 " What do you think they call my girl when they sold her? What Kind of baby they call her from up on the block?". The second one I got from page 152 " How's I free when they tolt me I ain't got no choice but to go to school? How's I free when they got that Johny boy watching over me like a sheriff?".

13 Treasures

Author: Michelle Harrison
Pages: 355

This week I read about the troubles that Tanya and Fabian get into, trying to uncover the secrets hidden behind the walls of her grandmothers mansion. Tanya finds out her grandmother dislikes her just as much as Tanya dislikes her grandmother, so much that her grandmother wants to sell the historical mansion just so that Tanya doesn't inherit it. They have found many secret passages and much much more. The most interesting part is probably when Tanya and Fabian found out that the girl they saw in the woods should actually be 70 years old, if not dead. I would recommend it to adventurous and curious people, who just cant keep their nose out of other peoples business (in a good way).

The theme of my book is "the power of will is strongest of all" as I put it. This means that no matter what, the power of what YOU want is the strongest power that can take over you.  Some examples from my book are "In that moment I found a power beyond any I'd had before, a will and a determination I would never have needed if not for Lucinda, a fortitude I hadn't been able to find for a lesser cause." Ella Enchanted, page 226. I think this symbolizes the importance of the power of will because Ella said she has found a different self. Just her.

Award That The Book Got: JOHN NEWBERY MEDAL (On 2006)

Hi, today I have finished my book! It was a really good and a beautiful story. For me, I liked how the author puts some bits of drawing and pictures and how she organizes the stories and paragraphs in different ways. I think there are many themes and morals in this book. I think the theme is that life can always change and life doesn't always stay the same but, maybe something that you wish can happen if you believe that it can happen. These are two quotes that I think relates to the theme,

"She wished something woud happen. She wished it while she was looking at a magazine."- page 1

They flew out in the night air, every last one. Blinking, "Here I am." - page 337 (last page)

To Kill a Mockingbird

I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. It is interesting and engaging.

I think that the theme of the story is that you have to treat everyone equally, no matter what their skin color is and if they think or act differently.

Quote: "You never really understand a person until you consider its point of view" - Atticus Finch This quote is said by Atticus when he tries to teach Scout and Jem that everyone thinks in its own way.

Where Things Come Back

Author: John Corey Whaley
Number of Pages: 256

The main theme in the novel I am reading is that some things don‘t come back (like Cullen’s cousin Oslo who died), and some things may come back like Cullen’s brother Gabriel who disappeared, or the extinct Lazarus woodpecker. This novel has two story lines resulting in more than one theme, and some of them are faith and family. Benton the young missionary losses his faith and tries his best to find it again. On the other side Cullen and his family are very upset after Gabriel’s disappearance and Cullen is trying to keep his family together. Here are two examples of the theme, “This would all be true if the bird existed, which it didn’t”, and “The bird existed in the 1940s, but not in Lily, Arkansas.”

Surviving the Applewhites

The Author: Stephanie S. Tolan, number of pages read this week: 75 and i finished the book
Front CoverThe theme of my book is never judge a book by its cover. I thinks this because E.D always thought Jake was a bad boy and a mean person because he had red spiked up hair and a loot of ear piercings but inside of him he is caring, kind and sweet he really likes his foster home and is glad that he went their instead of juvenile hall. Now E.D is also happy to have Jake as a kind of brother and she cares about him too and she treats him like a real brother. Some examples of E.D judging Jake is when he first came she said that he is a "punk with an very evil look in his eyes" in the first chapter and in the second "why didn't you just go to juvenile hall instead, the kids there are a lot like you".

Diary of a Wimpy Kid / The Ugly Truth

Diary of a Wimpy Kid / The Ugly Truth

In these 50 pages, some pretty funky things happen to Greg. First, he doesn't know how to do his homework and when he asks his parents for help, his mom gives him answers, and it takes his dad 30 min to understand one question and then another 30 min to explain it to Greg. Second, Greg has to go to the hid dads dentist cause he is "to old" for the kids dentist he used to go to + He has to use the brases head gear in all times.Lastly he has an school asignment based on how hard it is to raise a baby in wich involves taking an egg to your house and bringing it whole the other day. That is pretty much what these 50 pages are about.

sign of the beaver

I finished the book I was reading; The Sign of the Beaver. It was a really interesting book. It's about Matt a boy who is on his own in the wilderness of Maine. He needs to survive. The author is Elizabeth George Speare. There are no pictures in the book so there is no designer. The theme of the book is stay hoping and about never giving up. For example when Matt is right in front of a bear he doesn't run away like a chicken. He kills the bear with his arrow and bow. The book has 135 pages.

Theme of The story

The theme of the story is that no matter how the person looks in the outside its what in the inside that matters. Here is a quote, "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view....Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around it." - Atticus Finch
