What Am I reading? Harry Potter and the Order Of Phoenix (Book 5)

Over the past week or so I have been reading the Order of the Phoenix, the 5th book in the well-known Harry Potter series. I love these books so much and this is probably the fourth time I am reading this book. It is about Harry Potter , the protagonist, who as you probably know, was the only person ever to be able to resist Lord Voldemort's killing.
Nobody knows why (until you read the seventh book!)
So far, Harry has had to go to a courtcase in the Ministry of Magic, because he displayed magic in front of his muggle (non - magic) cousin, when trying to defeat the dementors, horrible soul - sucking, things.

He has got to know his new defence against the dark arts teacher, Proffesor Umbridge, very well, due to the fact that he has already managed to get into dentention with her for two weeks!
She works for the Ministry of Magic, who are against Harry's headmaster, Dumbledore, due to the fact that they are afraid of admitting that Voldemort is back.

Harry is experiencing various strange dreams where he is 'part' of Voldemort, he is finding that he can read Voldemort's moods, and know when he is happy or very angry.

In one of his dreams, he is a snake biting Harry's best friend's father. He then wakes up suddenly and warns the family. It turns out to be true and he saves him. Now, as this is where I am in the book, he is in St. Mungo's Hospital, which is the magical hospital.

A new word is Expelliarmus. It is the spell that makes the other person's wand fall out of their hand. This is very usefully in a duel when the other is about to stun you or even worse.

I love this book so much, and if you haven't read it, then you had better!

Inkheart By: Cornelia Funke

For my blog post I decided to tell you about the book I was reading for my book project. I had to refresh my mind a little bit and read it so I understand it better and get more into it. I finished the book. I really liked the beginning and end. Lets just say that the middle was not my favorite part.  A new word that I learned was grimace which means a twisting of the face to show pain, disgust, or anger.  This book was mainly about a girl who could read characters out of books, and her father who had a book that Capricorn the antagonist wanted. If you want to know more read the book!!!!

Jessie J My Story

Dear Bloggers and Readers,
I am reading Jessie J's autobiography "Nice To Meet You" (My story). I am on page 30 out of 208. The main idea of this book is that it took loads of effort for Jessie J to become what she is today (Popular singer). This book talks about her personal life and childhood. Where she was born? When did she make her first song?.... A word that I found was horrific which means causing horror. I would recommend this book to music lovers because it is really good and interesting!

The Old Man and the Sea

Title: The Old Man and the Sea
Author: Earnest Hemingway
Total pages: 99
Pages read: 53

The book I am reading is the old man and the sea. I am reading it in Serbian. The book is about an old man, who likes to go fishing. He used to go fishing with a little boy, but since he wasn't as successful as he was before, the boy's father decided to move the boy to another boat. The boy was really sad because he really loved the old man. It was the old man's eighty-fifth day at sea. He hoped that he would catch a fish that day since days went by as he didn't catch any good fish. He set out at the sea and he let the current lead him. The old man got a bite on his hook. His first reaction was that it was a very big fish. He was right it was a big fish. I am up to the part where he is trying to get the fish out of the water. The book is very exciting and you never know what to expect next.

NAVAJO SUMMER

That book is interesting because when you read it is like this is your adventure in the same moment.
It is interesting also because is a real adventures of a girl.

Unknown Word: Tantalizing
Definition: Tantalizing means tempting which means Like you want it
Ex. "The candy was tempting to take"

New Book: Uglies

This week I started reading a book called Uglies. The author of this book is Scott Westerfeld. I am on pg.40. The reason I started reading this book is because my friend Ana recommended it to me when she was presenting her newspaper. In my opinion the main idea of this book is that you should not judge people just by their looks but who they are inside. One word that was new to my vocabulary is "dorm". According to Merriam Webster, the meaning of dorm is a dormitory.

King of Ithaca

Author: Glyn Iliffe

I am currently reading a boom called "The king of Ithaca". As expected, people would immediately relate this to Odysseus and his 20 year journey. That is wrong! It is about a young man named Epiterus, who is going to the well known Oracle, in the top of Mount Parnassus (1590M). While on his journey, he notices a group of twelve men and a group of 20 men fighting. Due to the siege of Thebes, Epiterus knew that the group of 20 men where deserters. He hated them. He rushed into battle. After a couple of minutes, the bloody and gory battle ended in the favor of the 10 men. Epiterus himself had killed 5. It would turn out that the people from the group where from Crete. Together they climbed up the mountain. It was dark. The crew decided to wait until the following day to ask the Oracle. The leader of the men though refused. He went up the oracle and suddenly a priest stopped him. He told the leader of the men that the old priestess passed away recently, and that her inheritor, a younger one, needed sleep to continue her job. He then offered a bribe. 5 silver coins! The priest refused. The leader though, was ignorant. He went to Epiterus and told him to come! They bought 2 very good sheep to sacrifice to  Gaea and payed 5 silver coins. A tall man then came in front of them. They agreed to let the two men enter the oracle. He was bribed with 4 copper coins. The leader of the men was then asked by another priest why he was asking. He told a lie. The priestess screamed out that he was lying. Despite that, they let the two come in!

For now, I would rate this book a 10/10 due to it's interesting setting, and plot. Aswel as some side details. I would advise this to all fans of mythology. (That is the only branch of fiction I love!)

Interesting facts:
Odysseus
1.He fought in Troy for ten years.
2.10 years in his returnee.
3. Ithaca is thought to be near the west coast of Greece.

Beast Quest

Title: Equinus The Spirit Horse
Author: Adam Blade
33/118
http://clubs-kids.setantabookclubs.ie/products/73597

This week i started to read a new book. It is the next book. It is number 20. The main idea of the book is that the spirit horse holds the next piece of the gold pieces. So Tom and Elenna go after the ghost beast. I hope the book will have a lot of fighting and adventuring.  The new word for me was fearsome.

Warriors - Forest of Secrets - Post 2

The book I am reading now is called, 'Warriors - Forest of Secrets' by Erin Hunter. You might know this book if you read my earlier post about this book. I read 116 pages out of 312 pages, and so far this book is a great book (maybe not for you but it is AWESOME to me).
I changed the picture because it might be boring if I kept on using the same  picture.)
This book is a novel, because it has chapters and because it is a book, not a magazine and other things which is not a book.
This book, or the series is about wild cats (by this, I mean feral cats, not big wildcats) surviving in the wild, going through the dangers of many different issues, like pollution, deforestation, starvation, fires, etc., and the issues that happens in the wild and the forest. Also, this series became a bit popular, but isn't that well known like for example 'The Hunger Games' (but it is still AWESOME).
In this book (not the series), its mostly about the main character, Fireheart (you might know him if you already read my post), solving a mysterious death of his former deputy of his Clan (a group of wild cats surviving in the wild helping and living for his or her group or affiliation. Also Fireheart's Clan is ThunderClan), and also finding out and discovering other secrets he didn't mean to find out while solving the mystery. Fireheart was determined and started to solve this mystery in the first book of the series, 'Warriors - Into the Wild', because his friend, Ravenpaw, witnessed the death of Redtail, ThunderClan's former deputy, and had to seek refuge in a barn. Ravenpaw said that Tigerclaw, the present deputy of ThunderClan, killed Redtail, so Fireheart thinks that Tigerclaw would be a threat to his Clan and his Clanmates (the group of cats in a Clan). So in order to keep his Clan and his Clanmates safe, he tried to prove to his leader, Bluestar that Tigerclaw was dangerous but she didn't believe him, and would not trust him. So he tried to gain Bluestar's trust again by getting more information from Ravenpaw, but found out a weird and mysterious thing that happened in the battle Redtail died in instead. This weird thing actually lead to a big secret, which was about his Clan leader.
Well, that's mostly what happens in this book, and a word that I didn't know was 'anguish', and anguish means distress, suffering, and pain.

SIGNAL
I finished a book called signal. I recommend it to everyone! Its a very cool book! I don't want to tell you what happens because i want you to read it. It has an interesting story to it. The book doesn't have a any weird words but it does have things bout aliens about it. It might seem a bit child like but it is really exciting and makes you read non stop. I'm begging you... READ IT!
Hey sixth graders,

The book I am reading this week is called Whittington by Alan Armstrong. I am on page fifty.
I have not quite figured out the main idea yet. What I do now is that a cat needs a home
so he goes to live in this barn. He meets a lot of farm animals and makes lot's of friends. I know
I will really enjoy the book. The new word I don't know is unperturbed. Unperturbed means free from emotional agitation or nervous tension.

This is a picture of the book Whittington.
It is a great book so far.

Blood and Iron

Author: Hwong-lee

The main idea of this story is about this boy called Rock Brain and his adventures to build the old Canadian railroad with all the excitements and the dangers along the way. This autobiography is very exciting and it is dog gone hard to put the book down. One of the words that I did not really understand in my book is "ill-designed" and I found out that it means for something to be not well designed, faulty or not working well.

"The best car ever?"

An article from the Czech magazine called: "AutoTIP" which is issued monthly.
Written by Libor Hlisnikovsky

2 pages

The magazin is very interesting for the people who want to be inventors or who want to know a lot about the cars. It tells you everything, including the technical data about different models of cars, so you can use these datas for your own inventions.

The article is about Ferrari FF, which is probably the best car in the world ever. "Why?" This car has a suspension change so it is comfortable on the highway, but also on bumpy road. When it is on snow mode you can raise the car for 40 mm and the camera system watches all possible obstacles around the car. It is ultra fast car but at the same time very smart and elegant car, agile as well, comfortable. It is the first ferrari with four seats.

New words what I have learnt:
Newton metre is a unit of torque (also called "moment") in the SI system.

In the automotive field, a transaxle is a major mechanical component that combines the functionality of the transmission, the differential, and associated components of the driven axle into one integrated assembly.

                          Savvy

Author: Ingrid Law

# of pages read: 342( read it all yesterday!)

This book is about an extraordinary family who each has their own savvy, or special talent. Mississippi Beaumont is just 3 days away from her own 13th birthday when her mothers side of the family powers will swift down upon her. Yet right at that specific moment, a call from the phone is heard and her family is told that her father had gotten in a bad car accident. Already her life is a chaos from her electric 17 year old brother, Rocket, 14 year old Fish who controls water, wind, and hurricanes, her perfect mother and 7 year old broody Samson to 3 year old fairy like Gypsy. They live in a place between Nebraska and Kansas, far away from the water, their very own land that Grandpa Bomba created. Her mother and brother Rocket had to go to Salina hospital because Rocket was the only source to start up the old station wagon. Then to make things even worse, Miss Rosemary, the Pastors wife, had to come and make everything tip top by throwing her a Huge party even though Beaumont 13th birthdays were strictly private. On Mibs 13th birthday she believes that her savvy is to wake up things but finds out soon after she sneaks on to a pink bible delivery bus with Fish, Samson, and Will Jr. and Bobby, Miss Rosemary's children, well... at least one of them. A never ending book full of symilies and turns and twists.

One word I didn't know was catastrophe. It is a noun that is usually a great and often damage or suffering.

Pretties

By: Scott Westerfeld

This week I am reading "Pretties" by: Scott Westerfeld, "Pretties" is the second book from the "Uglies" series. In this novel I have read 112 pages out of 370. The main idea of the novel "Pretties" is that, Tally Youngblood lives in a perfect world, shes now a pretty and lives in New Pretty Town without a care in the world,, until one day she gets a letter written by herself, a letter from her ugly past, informing her once again that being pretty comes with a price. A new word I found in the novel "Pretties" was flasks, the definition of flasks is a bottle or container, I found this word on page 111, of this novel.

When You Reach Me! Rebecca Stead :D

When You Reach Me
When You Reach Me (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Hiya everyone!
The book that I am reading at the moment, and that I have been reading this week (I started this week!) is called When You Reach Me, by Rebecca Stead. I'm on page 84, out of a total of 197 (it isn't that long!).
It was awarded the Newbery Award in 2012, so I might do my 'Award winning' book report on this book. It has also won another award, and has been nominated for a few... so... yes. It's a bit famous.

So, whats it about?
It is set in the 70's, and the main character is a called Miranda. She's hardly satisfied with her name, as she was named after a kidnapper, 'Mr. Miranda', as she calls him.  Ernesto Miranda (I think.)
Life has been going down the hill since Sal, her best friend was punched on the way home from school, and started ignoring her.  During her breaks, her and two other kids at school go and work at a cafe for free sandwiches and soda. She works in the back because she can't master the 'V Cut.' She is totally miserable.
She is having disputes with one of the girls in her class 'I'd thought we were just irritating each other, but I was wrong. This was war. pg78'
Things don't seem to be going in her favour, and to top it all off she is getting mysterious notes. She doesn't know who from, and they all seem to know too much. Some of them are getting seriously alarming, and she doesn't know what to do.

A word that I didn't understand was hydrant. 'We're trying to make working hydrants.'
Hydrant- An upright water pipe, esp. one in a street, with a nozzle to which a fire hose can be attached.Enhanced by Zemanta

THE SON OF NEPTUNE

The title of my book is The Son Of Neptune. The author of my book is Rick Riodan. I read 9/521 pages of this book. I am reading a new book this week and a new word that I have found and researched is a demigod which means a human and a god unified. This book was very interesting because it had a lot of fighting in it. The main character of this book was Percy Jackson. I will put more info as I read the book Thanks for Reading!

Little Woman

Hi guys,
I am this week reading Little Woman by Louisa May Alcott. I have read 148 pages out of 546.
Here is a picture of the book :
Comment: This is my first time reading this book. I have always                    wanted to read it but never spent my time going to book shops and               looking for it.When I went to this years book sale I saw it and I quickly       grabbed the book before any one else could! :)

The idea of the book is that there are four girls and that their father went to war and they stayed with their mother in their house with their servant. They are not a wealthy family any more since there father went away and there is no one to work. So the two oldest daughters have decided to work a bit, the oldest one called Margret, who's nick name is Meg, is seventeen and she goes to this rich persons house and teaches the youngest kids and sort of babysits them. The second oldest daughter is called Josephine and her nick name is Jo, she is sixteen and she is taking care of their rich aunt who is very old.

A word that I found very interesting is "parlor" the definition is: A sitting room in a private house.

                                                                       Anka
This week I will write about a site named Digi Sport. I read from that site all the news from the Romanian sport. There you can read news about soccer, basketball, tennis, rugby, F1 and MGP.                                      Every day I read 10 pages from that site. I like that site because there are only interesting news. I  will share with you an interesting fact about the legend of Italy: Gianluigi Bufon.                                                        This is what Digi Sport says about him. They say that he is the player with the most selections for the national tam of Italy. He played 137 games for the national team. He played his first game in the national team on 29 October 1997!                                                                                                                                 He is the best goalkeeper from all the times in my opinion! James and the Giant Peach

James and the Giant Peach
Review by Shelly Ness
100/146

I am reading a book called James and the Giant Peach and it is about a boy who's parents died when he was younger. He lives with 2 terrible aunts who act to him like they are his queens and he is a slave. One day a man gives him strange beans that whatever they touch makes it miserableness. James dropped the beans and a peach tree started growing. It had a big peach on it and it went bigger, bigger and bigger and it was as big as his aunt's house! The beans fell on some insects and made them grow big. Now, James decided to live in the peach with the insects and one day, they decided to get out of the garden and explore the world so they rolled the peach and they got in to the sea and sharks ate the peach but they managed to get it out with a crazy plan.

A new word I learned is Centipede and it is an insect with a 100 legs. Cen means 100 and pedes means legs so that's how they got the name!

Every 25 years they hold a Quarter Quell, which means a miserable twist for the tributes and more fun for the Capitol.

Fire

I am about to read a book called Fire. It is about a girl called Fire that can read minds. The prince (I think) of a village comes to her and tells her that the king of the village is in danger, and he needs her to come and read the antagonist's mind to see what the plan is. Fire wants to go and help, but there is one obstacle. She is afraid she will become what her father was.

NAVAJO SUMMER
