The Ramayana

Author- Priority Publications
Number of pages- I read 31 pages (in all the book has 227 pages).
So far this has happened:

So far the book is very interesting with lots of Indian words and names. There was a city called Ayodhya and was ruled by the King Dasharatha.  He and his three queens Kausalya, Kaikeyi and Sumitra were unhappy because they didn't have any children. One day Dasharatha organised a sacrifice for the gods. The gods were so pleased that they sent a messenger with a bowl of sacred rice. If the queens would eat the sacred rice they will soon have children, and they did. Four children were born. Kausalya gave birth to Rama and Kaikeyi gave birth to Bharata but as for Sumitra who ate the sacred rice twice, had twins- Laksmana and Shatrughna. When the princes were old enough they were taught various disciplins. One day Sage Vishvamitra came to Ayodhya for Rama believing that he can beat two deamons. Dasharatha belived that was not possible and offered that he himself will go with Rama but all that made Vishvamitra angry.  So Dasharatha decided not go but send Laksmana with Rama and Vishvamitra was fine with that. So they carried on their journey. As night fell they all fell asleep. In the morning they continued their journey. Soon they were at river Ganga, where Vishvamitra told them the story about how Ganga was originated. After the story they headed for the forest were a terrible deamon lived, who was killed by Rama. Vishvamitra was pleased and gave both kids weapons which he had gotten from Lord Shiva. When they reached Vishvamitra's hermitage the kids were set as guards. Soon the demons came and were killed by Rama. Rama, Laksmana and Vishvamitra went through cities solving problems of the town. On their way they heard about Sita who was a gift for the king Janaka from the earth. Sita now is grown up. Soon they reached Mithila. There at the king's palace is a mighty bow of Lord Shiva which no-one could pick up and whoever would pick the bow up would win Sita's hand. Rama tried and succeded, but when Rama Bent the bow to string it the bow snapped in half. Rama had won Sita's hand and that messege was sent to Ayodhya.

The book Angel Cakes has 209 pages and is written by Cathy Cassidy. This book is about Anya and her new beginning in England. She has some ups and downs but is learning to like Liverpool. She has to great friends Frankie and Kurt. She met Dan in school. He was the one which always made trouble but really likes Anya. She likes him back but her friends knew that he was trouble, and never to except him to keep  promises or that whatever happens means something. Anya is having some trouble believing that.

Alice in Wonderland

This week I finished the book. In my opinion, the ending lacked excitement. This novel was concluded with the classic "It was all a dream!" idea. Of course it was much more realistic than, for example, having Alice climb out of the rabbit hole or perhaps living the rest of her life in Wonderland or for the truly unexpected ending, being whisked away by a knight in shining armor! In this book, I felt there was no real storyline. Just a series of short stories involving a the same setting and characters, but no less an interesting piece of literature!

Against All Odds novel

What I Have Read So Far

Title Of Book: Against All Odds
Author : Paul Connolly
Number Of Pages: 277
Number Of Pages Read All Together: 241

This week I read six chapters. I didn't really like the first chapter because he was talking about his work as a guard at a club and I didn't really like how there were a lot of bad things happening. As I read thorough the book, I realized that the story is getting better and much interesting because this is a flashback story and it gets better as you read the book. The other five chapters was about him having a good future but he also remembers what happened to his past and when the police officers tells him what happened to his friends. This is a really nice book but still, I didn't like how some of the language that he was using.

Treasure Island

By: Robert Louis Stevenson (114 pages)

In the book Treasure Island there are adventures, surprises, plots, schemes, dramatic events, and more. In this book a boy named Jim is living a peaceful life working in his family inn until a pirate named Billy Bones comes to the inn and stays there a while. During his visit other dangerous pirates who were on a voyage with Billy Bones to the cursed island known as "Treasure Island" visit the inn (and later attack it) trying to find out were Billy Bones is keeping the map to hells gates (the island). Right after the attack Jim and his mother run away with the map to a forest near by and get lucked out when someone runs over the pirates right before reaching them. Later, Jim goes on a Voyage to the island with Dr. Livesey, the Squire Trelawney, captain Smollett, the kind, and nice yet mysterious Long John Silver, and the rest of the crew to get the gold. Soon John Silver and most of the other 21 crew members (16) create a mutiny against everyone else to take over the ship and kill them after they lead to them to the treasure. There was war on the island. During this time of war Jim met a man named Ben Gunn who was marooned by his shipmates on their voyage to the island seeking treasure 3 years earlier, those ship mates were; Billy Bones, John Silver, the pirates who attacked the inn, most of the crew on this ship, and their captain, the devil, Flint. Ben Gunn lived on the island ever since he was marooned and had a small raft food and weapons. After most of the people were dead (and the captain was injured), Jim went away from their "fortress", took Ben Gunn's raft, and cut off the rope of the anchor of the ship they sailed in the Hispaniola so it would drift away into sea. The only problem was Jim was now drifting away from the island too. Young Jim was dying of fear on the little raft, the only thing that saved him was sleep. Later on after Jim woke up he spotted the Hispaniola and managed to take over it. (Because there were only 2 people on board, 1 of them was dead, and 1 of them was dying. Jim helped the man survive and the man helped Jim arrive to his destination.) During that time the enemy took over the "fortress", but didn't injure/kill any of Jim's friends, and in return they got map to the treasure and Dr. Livesey took care of the wounded people from the enemy. Jim didn't know about this, so when he got back they took him as hostage. Soon when the enemy went to find the treasure they found nothing but pieces of wood because it was a trap! Dr. Livesey, Ben Gunn, and 1 of the crew members, Gray, took all of the gold to Ben Gunn's cave where he had food and water. It was also a good place for the captain to rest because of his injury. The doctor, Gunn, and Gray killed 3 people, and scared off 3 people. 5 (+ the addition of Ben Gunn) out of the original 26 crew members made it off alive that terrible island. John Silver ran away with (only) 1 sack of gold, but the rest went back to England.

I think this book is amazing! I would recommend it to anyone who likes adventures books, but doesn't mind things like blood and other harsh stuff.

Fifth Grade Stars

The title of the book is The Holly Hudnut Administration Society. It is written by Lisa Nordby. It has 100 pages. I am still liking the book because it is getting stranger with Holly inviting Jan to her Birthday party and the creepy neighbor Mr Smith didn't do anything the girls just sat there and watched it and thats why I am still liking the book because it is interesting!

Pages: 182

Summary:

There is a horse named Joey. He get bought at 6 months old. His owners son becomes his best friend, but they are separated when the war starts and Joey is taken as a war horse (that's where the tittle comes from). Albert (owners son) tries to get into the army, but he is too young. Joey meets his new rider, he is slightly older than Albert. Soon Joey is moved and starts dragging ambulance carts with his horse friend Topthorn. He meets a little girl who lost her parents and brother and is sick. The two of them become great friends. Soon the hospital is moved, so Joey and Topthorn stay and become farm horses, Joeys biggest dream since he left the farm. Soon Joey once again has to be moved....

Thoughts:

I don't like this book because Joey moves around too much. Also I don't like people dying, it doesn't even play with my emotions properly. It doesn't make me sad in a way that a book should, it didn't make me cry. It uses really fancy language at times, mostly when it isn't necessary, and it repeats words over and over again.

THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER

Tom met new a girl and she liked him a lot. It was Becky Thatcher, a daughter of a local judge. Another new character in this book is Huckleberry Finn, the son of the towns drunker. He is homeless, doesn’t go to school, and lives a wild life.
Once, at midnight, Tom and Huck went into the graveyard. They hear somebody is coming and hide. It was Dr. Robinson with two criminals. They were stealing bodies from the grave. One of them murdered Dr. Robinson, and Tom and Huck run away, fearing for their lives.
Tom decided to leave Aunt Polly because Becky was not paying attention to him. When he sneaks into the house to leave a message to his aunt that he is alive, he overhears his aunt and cousins crying and talking about funeral plans for him and Huck. In the middle of the funeral, they come out of hiding and everybody is happy.
During the summer Tom and Huck go looking for treasure. But, they find one of the criminals from the graveyard again. They discover that he has a big treasure. They decide to spy on him and try to steal it. All the children go on a picnic to McDougal's Cave. Tom and Becky get lost.
I still like this book even though I sometimes read it a little harder. The language in this book is old-fashion and many words are abbreviated.

The Riddle of Zorfendorf Castle (The Secrets of Droon #25)

Little Prince....

The book Little Prince by  Antoine de Saint-Exupery is a very good book and I love it.
The narrator, an airplane pilot, crashes in the Sahara desert. The crash badly damages his airplane and leaves the narrator with very little food or water. As he is worrying over his predicament, he is approached by the little prince, a very serious little blond boy who asks the narrator to draw him a sheep. The narrator draws it for him, and the two become friends. The pilot learns that the little prince comes from a small planet that the little prince calls Asteroid 325 but that people on Earth call Asteroid B-612. The little prince took great care of this planet, preventing any bad seeds from growing and making sure it was never overrun by baobab trees. One day, a mysterious rose sprouted on the planet and the little prince fell in love with it. But when he caught the rose being dishonest one day, he decided that he could not trust her anymore. He grew lonely and decided to leave. Despite a last-minute talk with the rose, the prince set out to explore other planets and cure his loneliness. The book Little Prince is very well written book that talks about much more, and really this is a true life meaning. I read this book many times and I really enjoy it. Every time i read it I understand it in a different way. Its really amazing!!! You're never too old to read it. Now, I think that I understood it as the author actually meant it. So I am very happy that I remembered to read it again. I would recommend this book to everyone, and I hope that at least, one have of our class knows the real meaning of it. Again, its a great book and especially now, I think that you guise would understand the real mining of it. The book is awesome and I really loved it. Not too short, but not too long, just the right amount.
P.S.
There is one explanation from the book and it was pretty interesting for me to read it.. This is how it goes..
"Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is exhausting for children to have to provide explanations over and over again."

SIXTH-GRADE glommers, norks, and me #2

SIXTH-GRADE glommers, norks, and me
Lisa Papademetriou
1-217 pages

-Summary

A huge misunderstanding between Allie and Tam!!!
Tam started hanging out with Reenee, the old LFC club member.
Tam, Allie, and Reenee has a science class together. Tam and Reenee became lab partners and Allie with a nerd called Orren. Allie and Orren did a good job on the lab. Reenee asks Allie for the lab result. Allie couldn't say no, so she let Reenee cheat.
Allie asked Tam out on the weekend, but Tam says she has to meet her grandma. Allie felt sad but went shopping with her mom for skirts (very unusual for Allie). At the mall, Allie saw Tam with Reenee. Allie felt betrayed by her best friend. On the school bus, Allie and Tam talked and Allie forgave Tam.
During the science class, Reenee, Tam, Allie, and Orren got zero for the lab report. Mrs. Larsen, the science teacher found both of the reports were the exact same. But Mrs. Larsen was a milkyway (someone who looks really hard on outside, but really marshmallow on the center), and let them do it again and regrade them but with 20 points off. Orren was angry but forgave Allie.
After the class, Tam got furious at Allie. Even though she was the one who should be sorry. She shouted that she and Reenee are very mad and asked Allie to act normal.
Tam visited Allie and said sorry. Then came Lionel (Allie's big brother) and said "... have you been teaching Allie how to act normal?" and Tam answered, "Trying too." Allie was very upset.
Soccer team are going to sport banquet with pairs. Allie thought of asking Chris (older boy, Allie's huge crush) but Orren asks Allie first. Allie couldn't say no, so she said, "Sure! Sounds Great!" and she didn't mean it.
What is Allie going to do?
What will happen between Allie and Tam?

-My thoughts

'Why are THEY mad at HER? They should be they should be the ones who are sorry! They asked Allie for the paper, and copied all of Allie and Orren's work, and now they are mad because they got zero!' pg. 109

'I think Tam isn't really a great friend. She doesn't think how Allie would feel. She made me angry just reading it.' pg. 134

'Orren is a good friend, even though he's a boy. He knows Allie's secret (that she likes Chris) and keeps it. He understands her and very nice to her. Maybe...' pg. 142

'I am relieved because Allie plays soccer. Adults say sports is the great way to make friends, and they are right. Allie made amazing and caring friends. Jack and Elena.' pg. 148

'Now I realized that Tam is kind of a popular girl who doesn't care about other's feelings and kind of mean, too. Allie is a road-chicken (n: someone who can't decide which side to be on, and ends up standing in the middle of the road... which is, of course, where the cars are) right now.' pg. 154

'I think Dad is kind of like a person who cares a lot about how you look. He cares about how Allie dresses and frowns at Lionel's hair.' pg. 164

Harry Potter and the prisoner of Axzaban

This week I read 27 pages. The story was mostly about the children and their school classes.

The book is about Harry and his friends who go to a magical creature class at Hogwarts School and in the Forbidden Forest.

Hagrid lets Harry bow and touch and ride a hippogriffs called Buck beak. I thought this part was really exciting. And Malfoy got hurt by Buck beak and he had to go to the hospital.

I am enjoying this book very much and look forward to reading more about Harry's adventures.

Author : Maureen Johnson
Pages read over the weekend: 30

The book is still exiting right now at the moment they are in Scotland! Ginny is there because the 5th envelope said that Ginny's aunt wanted her to meet her biggest idol.It is exiting and a bit confusing because i don't get the point of meeting Ginny's aunt biggest idol. But I hope that the rest of the book will be interesting, exiting and adventurous as I expect it to be.Well that's all for now thanks for giving your time to read this. :)

The Spiderwick Chronicles-The Field Guide

by Arthur Rackham, 107 pages

Jared was accused for messing up everything in the house and got blamed for hurting his brother and sister. He wanted to prove that the evil Brownies did it. So he put flour on the floor, to catch the Brownies footprints, and he was going to show them to his mother. In the morning the whole kitchen was upside down and the tadpoles were frozen in the fridge. Jared was in trouble. He had to clean up the mess and take out the garbage. There he realized that he had to fix the boggarts nest. Jared thought that the boggarts was unhappy because of that. In the end they finally met the boggart and Mallory and Simeon believed that Jared was speaking the truth. I liked the book The Spider wick Chronicles. It had magical creatures, and the funny things the boggard did made me laugh.

Wind in the Willows

Wind in the Willows
Kenneth Grahame
284 pages
I have finished the the 6th chapter, and I really like it. Mole, Water Rat and Mr Badger have a hard time trying to make Toad a positive, modest toad. Apparently, Toad is still boasting and now he has added another problem to poor Mole and Rat: Toad must try a motor car. And there is no questioning that because he always succeeds in his plans. Mole has a problem, so he sets out for Mr Badger's home, in the middle of the winter night. Mr Badger lets Mole and Rat, who followed Mole frightfully, into his home. Mole  and Rat are on their way back to the Riverbank, when Mole smells his old, abandoned home. Rat thinks that Mole's home is wonderful, and that is the end of the 5th chapter. In the 6th chapter is about Toad. Toad is pretending to be sick, and his friends don't know that. So they try to help him and go to search for a doctor. The moment they are outside, Toad jumps out of bed and grabs his coat. Then he rushes to the bar. On his way he sees a motor car parked in the street. "I must get that motor car!"he says. He jumps into the car. "There can not be any harm," he said to himself, "in my only looking at it!" Toad is sent to the court after driving for many miles. He is sent to prison.

Swindle by Gordan Korman has 252 pages. So far in this book Griffin has brought back together a group of friends(some not so much friends) to get back his card from a man because he tricked Griffin by telling him the card was not real and payed a little bit of money but really that card could make a lot of money and even maybe save Griffin from moving. This story is a little bit boring and they have a picture of a dog on the front when really the dog plays a minor role in the book.
Title: Liar,Liar Pants on Fire

Blog post #4

I finished the book Liar, Liar Pants on Fire and it is about a girl named Zoe who lies to get out of trouble and to become cool. Even though sometimes Zoe says the truth  her teacher thinks that she lies because she always does it and she doesn't believe her, which is not fair to Zoe. After saying something truthful,  Zoe again starts to tell lies, gets in a circle of them and then tries to get out of them. In the end, Zoe does not get out of the circle of lies but she finds out that she has the greatest imagination in all of her class and the history of third grade. Zoe continues lying but at least she knows that she is the coolest kid in third grade.
I really enjoyed reading this book because it can be a true story and can happen to anyone in real life.
I would like to read more books by this author.

Blog post #3

The story Liar, Liar Pants on Fire takes place at a school and in Zoe's house. If the story took place in a different setting, it would be changed a lot. If the setting was a forest, there would be no teachers and school buildings. Also if it took place at a different school like ISB, teachers would be more strict and would not allow children to lie. If I had a chance to travel to America, I would not like to visit this school or Zoe's house because I don't like how much she lies and I think her family is weird.

The Headless Cupid Part 4

The headless cupid Part 4

In the 4th part of The Headless Cupid was very interesting and sort of fun. Amanda told the Stanley kids the last ordeal and it took about 3-4 days for all of them to complete it. The next step to becoming a wizard, noeone knew what was. Amanda set up curtains and towels over the windows in her room and litt up candles around the whole room. She also asked someone to find her a dead lizard that she needed for their last trial of becoming a wizard. There is a lot more to these couple of chapters than I retold you, but you will have to peek inside and see yourself.
