The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Author: Mark Twain
Number of pages: 249

It is another beautiful day in St. Petersburg, Missouri, but Tom Sawyer is not going to enjoy it. He got a big bucket of paint with him to paint a big fence. Tom tries to get Jim to do some his work for him promising him to get water from the well in return. Tom promises to trade Jim a "White Alley" marble. Jim tricks the trickster Tom, Jim takes a look at Tom's toe, and runs away laughing. So Tom actually starts painting the fence, but he gets bored and tired very easy. He takes his "stash" out from his pockets  (toys, marbles and garbage) and puts it by his side, then he puts on his happiest face and goes back to painting. Tom's buddy Ben Rogers, a teaser, comes by. Pretending to be a big old steamboat, he tries to attract attention while Tom is working. Tom pretends that he is painting the fence more than anything else. This makes Ben very interested and he pretends that fence painting is really an art. At the end, he's got Ben painting the fence. Before too long, the fence is completely painted and then Tom goes to say his good work to Aunt Polly.
