The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain

This novel is set in a small village of St. Petersburg, Missouri in the middle of the 19th century. That place has everything interesting for a yang boy: river, spooky forests, island for fishing and pirate games, caves where you could get lost in, and a graveyard. In this case the setting has an important role in making the atmosphere of adventures. If we set this novel in our time, I think we could lose the main idea of the story which is childhood freedom, that gives life in a small town. I always think about how it could be to live in the olden days without all the new technology. It would be interesting to experience this kind of adventures that have nothing in common with the urban lifestyle.
