Treasure Island

By: Robert Louis Stevenson (114 pages)

In the book Treasure Island there are adventures, surprises, plots, schemes, dramatic events, and more. In this book a boy named Jim is living a peaceful life working in his family inn until a pirate named Billy Bones comes to the inn and stays there a while. During his visit other dangerous pirates who were on a voyage with Billy Bones to the cursed island known as "Treasure Island" visit the inn (and later attack it) trying to find out were Billy Bones is keeping the map to hells gates (the island). Right after the attack Jim and his mother run away with the map to a forest near by and get lucked out when someone runs over the pirates right before reaching them. Later, Jim goes on a Voyage to the island with Dr. Livesey, the Squire Trelawney, captain Smollett, the kind, and nice yet mysterious Long John Silver, and the rest of the crew to get the gold. Soon John Silver and most of the other 21 crew members (16) create a mutiny against everyone else to take over the ship and kill them after they lead to them to the treasure. There was war on the island. During this time of war Jim met a man named Ben Gunn who was marooned by his shipmates on their voyage to the island seeking treasure 3 years earlier, those ship mates were; Billy Bones, John Silver, the pirates who attacked the inn, most of the crew on this ship, and their captain, the devil, Flint. Ben Gunn lived on the island ever since he was marooned and had a small raft food and weapons. After most of the people were dead (and the captain was injured), Jim went away from their "fortress", took Ben Gunn's raft, and cut off the rope of the anchor of the ship they sailed in the Hispaniola so it would drift away into sea. The only problem was Jim was now drifting away from the island too. Young Jim was dying of fear on the little raft, the only thing that saved him was sleep. Later on after Jim woke up he spotted the Hispaniola and managed to take over it. (Because there were only 2 people on board, 1 of them was dead, and 1 of them was dying. Jim helped the man survive and the man helped Jim arrive to his destination.) During that time the enemy took over the "fortress", but didn't injure/kill any of Jim's friends, and in return they got map to the treasure and Dr. Livesey took care of the wounded people from the enemy. Jim didn't know about this, so when he got back they took him as hostage. Soon when the enemy went to find the treasure they found nothing but pieces of wood because it was a trap! Dr. Livesey, Ben Gunn, and 1 of the crew members, Gray, took all of the gold to Ben Gunn's cave where he had food and water. It was also a good place for the captain to rest because of his injury. The doctor, Gunn, and Gray killed 3 people, and scared off 3 people. 5 (+ the addition of Ben Gunn) out of the original 26 crew members made it off alive that terrible island. John Silver ran away with (only) 1 sack of gold, but the rest went back to England.

I think this book is amazing! I would recommend it to anyone who likes adventures books, but doesn't mind things like blood and other harsh stuff.
