One of the conflicts in the book "Elijah of Buxton"  was an external conflict between Elijah and the Preacher. It occurred when the Preacher made Elijah watch a carnival show knowing how afraid of it he was. The Preacher wanted to show Elijah how the flimflam works while at the same time trying to get him to stop being so afraid and fragile. Elijah was not happy about the Preacher making him watch something he thought was so scary. I believe this conflict will not be resolved. In fact, I feel that the Preacher will have his way and force Elijah to watch something scary against his will. Elijah will not have a say in this because the Preacher is someone highly respected and therefore needs to be listened to.
