Matched By Ally Condie

What's Up Guys?

I am currently reading a book called Matched  By Ally Condie. I have read 67 pages out of 366.

From what I have read so far in the book Matched, That Cassia (The main character) has had her Match Banquet and was matched with her best friend, Xander. In Society everything is "perfect". And Cassia meets with her Grandfather for the last time.

There is a small part that I would like to share with you from the book. It is " In The Society, Officials Decide, Who You Love,Where You Work, And When You Die."

Might not help you guys much find out much of what happens in the book, it has help me a bit though.

I would recommend this to everyone. It is a great book so far.

          Definition Of Word
          Insubordination- Being disobedient
Sentence It was used in- I'm surprised by the unhappy edge to his tone; the way his comment seems on the verge of insubordination.

That is it for now.

Inkheart

The book I am reading is called Ink heart. The author is Cornelia Funke. Ink heart is an amazing book. whenever I read it I get so caught up in the reading that I cant stop. So far I didn't read a lot, I just read 32 pages out of 530.  In these thirty two pages I learned about one of the main characters Meggie. I learned where she lives and what she and her father like to do.  I have also read about Meggie's father taking her to one of her aunts that she had never seen or met before, Elinor. I would recommend this book to my classmates because it is a very interesting book. It is really fun reading it because as I have said before it gets you caught up in it.  I hope that you read this book one day.

this is my sentence and definition

'A picture pf the selfish giants garden?' murmured Meggie, peering through the intricately twining iron bars.

intricately -  1. Having many complexly arranged elements; elaborate.
            2. Solvable or comprehensible only with painstaking effort

Matilda

Matilda
by Roald Dahl
22/240 pages
Review by Shelly Ness

This week I started reading a book called Matilda. It is about a girl called Matilda that has a brilliant mind. She taught herself to read and speak in English perfectly at age 1! She has nasty parents that don't care about her and think that a good education for kids is to watch the telly (TV) all day instead of reading and writing. She has a brother called Michael that is 5 years older than Matilda and he is an annoying little brat. Matilda wanted to start reading books so she asked her father is she can get a book, but he didn't agree and said that she is becoming spoiled so because she is older she decided to go to the library while her parents were at work and her brother at school and started to read books from the library! every afternoon she would do that and that is how it went on for months. I recommend this book because it shows how some children are treated (luckily none of us) and because it is a really good and funny book!I like this this book because it is really interesting because this is not anything like my life and imagining it is really funny but sad!

A word that was in the story that i didn't understand was astounded the sentence was "a great number said the astounded Mrs Phelps. Astounded means surprised or shocked for example "Matilda was astounded by the book".

I am reading a book named scat! So far its amazing, its about a school named the Truman school. A class goes on a field trip arranged by the science teacher, to a swamp named "BLACK VINE SWAMP!"
I love the book! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves mysteries and scary people... :)
Immokalee - I found out Immokalee is a country in the USA, and it said there is a black vine swamp! that surprised me - "Were you aware that Duane got in trouble once for burning down a construction  trailer out near Immokalee?"
If you read the book u will understand why i am saying this... How could a teacher disappear on a field trip? What is going on in BLACK VINE SWAMP?

Title: Ark Angel
Author: Anthony Horowitz

In the book that I am reading now 160 pages out of 323 pages.
This week I am reading a book from the Alex Rider series and it is called Ark Angel. This book is about a boy named Alex Rider. Alex Rider is a spy for the British secret society called MI6. He has had many missions though they are mentioned in the other books. This book begins when he is shot in the
heart, more precisely, above the heart. While he is in the hospital he tries to protect another teenage patient from four people that work for an environmental society called Force Three that will kill anyone who comes in their way. Only after they kidnapped him did he realize why they wanted the other patient. Their target was Paul Drevin son of the Russian multibillionaire Nikolei Drevin. They were going to give Paul to his father for ten million dollars so they could try to save the environment. If you want to find out more then read Alex Rider: Ark Angel. I would like to recommend this book to all of sixth grade because it is exiting and non-stop action.

Telemetry is one of the word's I did not know in my book. Telemetry means to transmit (radio signals, data, etc.) automatically and at a distance, as in between a ground station and a space station. The sentence that telemetry was used in was: One group was marked COMMAND, the other TELEMETRY.

Cinder by Marrisa Meyer

This week I have been reading a book called Cinder by Marissa Meyer, an interesting turn on the Cinderella story. Well, Cinder, or 'Cinderella' is a cyborg. Yes, you read that right. Totally. I am reading a book about Cinderella as a cyborg. Its not as bad as it sounds.

Cinder lives in the future, in 'New Beijing', and she works as a mechanic. In fact she is the best mechanic in the city, at the age of 15. And, as I believe I have already mentioned she is a cyborg. In this future, when you lose a limb, or are seriously wounded, instead of giving you an artificial one, they make you into a cyborg, replacing the missing limbs with metal ones, and getting totally rewired. Her 'guardian' is Adri a women she very much dislikes. Her life is controlled by Adri. Cinder has no freedoms.
All of a sudden everything in her life goes completely haywire, starting with someone in the market where she works catching the plague, meaning she has to flee home, before she catches it. On returning home (where her sisters are being fitted for dresses for a ball- I know, very Cinderella-ish.) her sister Peony  catches the plague. Peony is taken away by Med-Droids, and then Adri makes Cinder volunteer to be tested on for new Plague treatments, blaming her. No cyborgs had ever survived the testing yet, and Cinder is sure it is the end for her.
After a series of tests, Cinder has been proved to be immune to the plague. This is a huge surprise, and now she has a vital role in finding out how to find the medicine to fix it all. She makes the doctors promise,  that the first to be treated with any remedy will be firstly, the emperor, and second her sister.
When the emperor dies and the whole of the commonwealth is thrown into chaos. Prince Kai is now King, at 19 . The Lunars (a  civilization that live on the moon) are choosing this time to talk to the commonwealth people and sign a peace treaty. Everyone can see behind this - the Lunars have been promising war for 12 years, and now is the time at its weakest. Cinder has to run.

This is book is really interesting and amazing, even if it does have some very predictable twists I really love dystopian novels, so this was my kind of book.  I would definitely  recommend it to everyone who wants to read something different and very unique. Where else do you have any chance to read something about cyborgs in the future, based on cinderella, with elements of the plague and Star Wars? I think it is a job well done by Marissa Meyer!

I understood most of the book, but one of the words that I had to check the definition was predisposed. Dr. Erland says "Something in your DNA that has predisposed your immune system to fight off the particular disease" when explaining that Cinder is immune to Letumosis, or the plague.  I was looking for a few definitions, and this one explains it best - a disposition in advance to react in a particular way. This means that Cinders body had already learnt to protect itself from the disease.
