My life with the Chimpanzees by Jane Goodall

The book I'm reading this week, as you probably all know, is My life with the Chimpanzees. As you know, it's about a woman who lived and studied with chimpanzees for a very long time. (40 years to be exact.) It tells of her life with the chimpanzees, her experiences, and how she finds it fascinating that chimpanzees are so incredibly related to humans. They even have similar emotions and they can get the same diseases that we can.

I'm on Chapter 11, page 136 at the moment, which is the last chapter. Of course, I chose this book as we are reading it at school for English. A word that I found slightly odd was in a few chapters back. That word is 'gorse.' Gorse apparently means a shrub related to the pea family which sounds very odd and is apparently found in Europe and North Africa which is where Jane is when the plant is mentioned.

I find this book very interesting as I love the way chimpanzees are so like humans. Jane Goodall mentions how chimpanzees are used for testing products as they are so similar to humans. I think this is so unfair as when they are tested they are kept in cages, on their own with hardly any food. Jane Goodall is really inspiring and teaches people how animals should really be treated.

BTW, sorry about there being two pictures, my laptop was glitching and I can't do anything about it...

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Hi guys! This post will be about the book that I'm reading now. It's called "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. The book has 407 pages and I read just 128. As I told you last week I start reading this book because I watched the movie and I loved it and I wanted to see if the book and the movie are similar or are different. This 128 pages that I read don't match any part of the movie and that's very interesting.
I will tell you what happened in the book till now. So at the beginning of the book Bilbo Baggins is celebrating his 111th birthday. He invited all the Shire (the country/place where all the hobbits live) at his party and he had a special guest: his old friend, Gandalf.gandalf was a wizard. While doing his speech at his party, Bilbo magically dispersed from the scene he was on.Nobody knew what happened except Gandalf. He knew that Bilbo used the Ringto become invisible. After 10 minutes everybody fforgot and the party went on. Frodo was very suspicious of what happened. Frodo was adopted by Bilbo when his parents died and he was living with Bilbo for a lot of time. Gandalf went at Bag End (Bilbo's house) and he met Bibo there. Bilbo told him that eh want to live the Shire because he misses the adventure and the mountains and all the beauty of the nature. So he lefts Bag End and live all his belongings to Frodo. He left the Ring too! No long after Bilbo left (nobody knows where he went) Frodo came home. Gandalf was waiting fro him. Gandalf told him what happened with Bilbo and start telling him more about the Ring. I will summarize you what Gandalf told Frodo. He began by telling him that Lord Sauron made that ring. Sauron was evil. Except his ring there were other ones. There is a little poem that tells about all of them:
"Three rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his Dark throne..."
These are all the  Rings that exist. Frodo had the Dark Lord's one. These Ring was suppose to take them all under his control. Sauron got nine of them before he died and lost the Ring. Now he was back and he send his troops to find Frodo and to take the Ring. Gandalf told Frodo that he should go to Mordor and destroy that ring. Frodo told Gandalf that he will move to a quiet part of the Shire where he can think about the Ring and his journey. He bought a house in a small city (I don't remember the name right now) and moved there with his friends Sam, Merry and Pippin. Hr told Merry to go there and get the house ready because he, Sam and Pippin will go for a little journey through the Shire and will get there soon. The trip was interesting. During the trip they found out that Sauron already send some kind of "Black Riders" after them. They also meet some Elves that gave them food and shelter for one night. They arrived in 4 days where they supposed to go.
Hope you enjoyed my little summary of the beginning!

Odd Apocalypse

Title: Odd Apocalypse
Author: Dean Koontz
Pages Read: 295/467

Odd Thomas and a friend of his, Anamaria, are invited by a reclusive billionaire to stay at his estate, Roseland, to stay as guests. Roseland is on the shore of California, with high, protective walls. Odd senses something odd (pun intended) about the billionaire's mansion. The staff is jittery and jumpy, filled with odd hints and concerns. Anamaria has secrets of her own and claims that someone in the estate needs Odd's help. They pack up and leave but Odd Thomas still isn't convinced.
Odd Thomas has a very special gift. I am sure you are all familiar with the "I see dead people" phrase from The Sixth Sense, and take it as a joke sometimes, but that is exactly Odd Thomas' case. He can see dead people. The old house is full of terrible and  bloody secrets. It is haunted by lingering spirits, and beasts who hide in the shadows. Odd has been dreaming of doom and terror lately.
My favorite line is in the blurb on the back:
Roseland has welcomed him in, but will it ever let him leave?
One word that I have found is: brandished
It means wave or flourish something, mainly a weapon, as a threat or anger or excitement.
The sentence is: A man leaped out, brandishing a knife.

The diary of Anne Frank

The diary of Anne Frank
By Sarah Vazzoler
This book/diary was written by Anne Frank.
I read the whole Italian and English version and the books that I read were of 258 pages but there are a lot of other versions that goes from 200 pages to 300 pages.
This book is about a girl called Anne (which is the author of this book) and about her experience to live in an attic with another family and to live in secret because if they go out German solders under Hitler’s control could find them.
Anne was 13 years old when she starts to write her diary and from it she found out that she love to write.
Her dream is to be a writer and to be famous in all over the world but all her hope will be destroyed by the noises of the bombs that explode during the night, the loud voice of the solders around the city the scream of the desperate prisoners the silent that she need to have during the day, the disagreeable family with which they share the secret attic or the simple vain hope of playing again on the street.
I loved this book so much but at the end I was really sad especially knowing that it was a true story, at the beginning I choose to read this book because I read the plot of the story and I felt really curios and I hope that after read this blog post you will be curios too if you didn’t read the book.
A word that I didn’t understood in the book was sealed-off and after searching this word I understood it means like to be in like prison, you can’t go out from a place normally a house.

Comparing with the story sealed-off was about that Anne and her family couldn’t go outside the attic because the solder.

Alice in Wonderland

This week I am reading Alice in Wonderland, Through the looking glass written by
Lewis Caroll. I am on page 24. I chose this book, when I was in the library looking for a
book to read, then I saw this wonderful colorful book on the shelf and when I took it I
saw it was Alice in Wonderland! I always wanted to read that book. An unknown word
that I found was ringlets, it is on page 15, and this is the sentence, " I am sure I am not
Ada" she said "for her hair goes in such long ringlets, and mine doesn't go in ringlets
at all". Ringlets means a lock of hair hanging in a corkscrew-shaped curl. This book is
about Alice and how she saw a rabbit, not just any rabbit a rabbit that talks and has a
watch. She was very curious and she started following him, until suddenly she fell
through a rabbit whole and found her self in a completely different world!
