Uppdraget - What am I reading?

Sentence #2: Forest edge - When I was walking on the path I heard a crack, I turned around just in time to see the deer disappear in the forest edge.

The book I am reading is a Swedish book called "Uppdraget", the translation to English would be "The Mission". The author of the book is Camilla Lagerqvist. This book has 157 pages. So I've continued to read in my book, this will be a summary of what I've read since the last blog post.

Maja and Benjamin, her mother's friend's son, went to check on the new girl, Hilde who was sitting on a big rock in the woods by their house; she had run away when she felt the ground shaking. Maja, Hilde, and Benjamin sat together and talked for a while on top of the rock. After a while, Hilde took her things and ran home to where she had moved in. Maja had things she needed to do, so Benjamin went home to where they had moved in. Maja and her little sister walked around the village and delivered fruits and vegetables that people had ordered from their mom. The people were nice to them, at some places they even got a snack. The next morning Maja's sister waked her, Benjamin was there. Maja and Benjamin went to Benjamin's house to swim in the sea behind his house.

Two words I didn't understand are:
Word #1: RĂ¥ma - Translation - Mooing - Definition - A deep sound of a cow.
Word #2: Skogsbryn - Translation - Forest edge - Definition - The end or beginning of a forest.

Sentence #1: Mooing. - When I was playing with my friend in the yard, I could hear the cows mooing on the grass field.

Watership Down

I am reading Watership Down by Richard Adams. The book has 464 pages not 413 as I said last time. I am 40 pages through the book. Is is an amazing story of about 10 or so rabbits migrating to different lands. The part that I have read so far is about them trying to cross a river. A very big challenge for them and they crossed it safely but while exiting the river, they see a huge field in front of them with wolf paw prints in it.
The words that I did not understand are:
Alder, which is a widely distributed tree of the birch family which has toothed leaves and bears male catkins and woody female cones. "The scientific name is for the tree is Alnus."

Blackthorn, which is a thorny shrub which bears white flowers before the leaves appear, followed by blue-black fruits. "It is called sloe because it is used chiefly for flavoring alcoholic beverages such as sloe gin."

Divergencia

Divergencia

The book I am reading is Divergencia, it is an English book translated into Slovak. Veronica Roth, the author, wrote the Divergent trilogy and this is the first book. The novel was published in April of 2011, and by January, 2014 Divergent had sold over 10 million copies! The best-seller has also been made into a movie. The author of Divergencia did a great job hooking you into her book by the first page.
A lot has happened in the 63 pages I have read. The protagonist of the story, Beatrice (a.k.a. Tris), has chosen to spend the rest of her life working in a faction, separated from her family. The faction is called "Neohrozenost" or "Fearless" in English. Tris made the decision to work for this faction by her self, after she found out that she was a divergent. Divergent are people that the test, which determines what the rest of your life will be, does not work on. Divergents are dangerous and illegal.
The faction that Tris works in is supposed to protect the city and make sure the people within the city stay safe. The people that work for the Fearless faction must not be scared, must be strong and intelligent. Not to mention fearless. Every year when newcomers arrive to work for the fearless, the leader picks ten of the people from the new people to become part of the Fearless. The people that do not make it to these top ten are kicked out of the Fearless faction and are sent to the faction that useless people live in.
Tris does not have a good start to making it to the top ten new people because off her size and her background. Tris is the smallest of the people being tested, this is not an advantage when you need to be a good fighter, strong and when you need to be able to go anywhere you need to (jumping onto a moving train, etc). Another disadvantage Tris has is the fact that she comes from the faction "Sebezaprenia" or "Abnegation" in English. This faction is thought of lowly. Does Tris stand a chance?
Two words I did not know are "nahradi" and "pokozku". Nahradi is the Slovak word for replace, to take the place off something or somebody else. I found this word on page 47 when Tris was thinking about who will replace her brother, as he was supposed to cook for the family today (her brother Caleb also left his family). A new sentence in which I could use the word is "I was going to replace the old vase with a new one, but my mother said I couldn't." The word pokozku means the skin on your face in slovak. I found it on page 48 when Tris described a boy that she met on the train. Another sentence in which this word could be used is "the skin on his face was a different color to the rest of him, it was darker and browner than his arms."

Sophie's world

The book I am currently reading is called "Sophies world", this book is a very unique book since it combines philosophy with thoughts of a 14 year old girl and how different minds function. As you get deeper into the book it confuses you more with thoughts about the world and Sophie's society, it compares different aspects of the world and makes you question different things. Sophie keeps receiving intriguing questions through letters, with an unknown sender. She not only begins receiving questions but as well the first chapter to a philosophy course. She begin to get some postcards that are adressed to Hilde, from Hildes father Albert Knag.

Sophie gets a thorough education on Greek and Hellenistic philosophy as she joined the course, but things begin to become strange...By this time she is introduced to her philosophy teacher Alberto Knox who has been sending her these letters. He is a middle aged philosopher who is trying to introduce her to philosophical thinking and the history of philosophy.

Some words I found while I was reading:

Trivialities - Lack of seriousness or importance; insignificance

Dank - Unpleasantly damp or cold

Turmoil - A state of great disturbance, confusion or uncertainty
