The adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.
This week I have read 57 pages in total now. The main person of the book is Tom.
The book this week is about Tom who goes to church and he does this marvelous trick. Tom has got a tooth loose but his does not want Aunt Polly to pull it out, but she does it anyway. Tom also meets a boy called Huckleberry Finn and they begin talking and Tom gets in trouble from school. One girl in Tom's class says that she likes his drawings.
I like the book because lots of funny things happen! I also like reading books with my family.
I hope you like the book too!

Summary
It is 1943. The Nazis has taken over the Denmark. The Rosen's family are Jews. The Johansen's family are their neighbor. Annemarie Johansen and Ellen Rosen are friends. They are like sisters. Every time they walk on streets, there are soldiers at each corner. While they were racing, the soldiers stopped them. They had shinny black boots. Ellen just froze. Then, Kirsti caught up with them. Little Kirsti, Annemarie's little sister pushed the soldier's hand away, saying "Don't" when he tried to pet her head. They chuckled saying that Kirsti is pretty and reminds him of his own little daughter, and they let the girls go. The people in Denmark were having a hard time because they didn't have any butter or sugar for big yellow cupcakes with pink frosting that Kirsti wants. Also, they had an illegal newspaper that tells people about what is happening. Peter came, risking the danger and gave them the paper. After Mama and Papa had read the paper, they burnt it. Peter married to Lise, Annemarie's older sister, who died by an accident. The stores that Jews were running started to close. So was Mrs. Hirsch's button shop. The Nazis started to 'relocate' all of the Jews in Denmark. The Rosen Family was in danger. They decided to leave Ellen under the Johansen Family's protection while Ellen's parents are gone with Peter. They now have to act like if they were real sisters in case the soldiers come. They came. Annemarie told Ellen to take off her Star of David necklace. Ellen didn't know how because she never did. Annemarie yanked it and broke it. She held it tight in her fist. This time, the Nazi soldiers were different from those on the street corners. They looked very angry and grumpy. They glanced at the family. They asked, "Who is the dark-haired one?" meaning Ellen. Annemarie squeezed her fist that is carrying the necklace. Fortunately, Mr. Johansen found a picture of Lise when she was little and had dark hair. The soldier tore the picture in half , threw it on the ground and left. Annemarie looked at her hand, with the Star of David printed on it. The Johansen family went to Uncle Henrik's house with Ellen, where they could see Swiss right across the water. Switzerland is free from the Nazis. Why did they go there?
The main characters of the novel is Kirsti, Annemarie and Ellen.
I will describe Ellen.
Ellen's family is Jewish. She is very good at acting, but her dad wants her to be a teacher because he is. She has dark and nice hair. She is a girl who is polite, apologetic and mature, because after the Nazi officers went away, she apologized for having a dark hair (p. 50). She is also very brave, it would be very scary to be chased by scary Nazis. (p.3, 45)

The Hobbit
Title:The Hobbit
Author: J.R.R.Tolkien
Pages:306
The main character in The Hobbit is, of course, the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins.
Bilbo is very short, just like any other Hobbit. He has brown hair, and blue eyes, sometimes he is very adventurous, and sometimes he is very lazy, and wants to be back in his hole, eating eight meals a day. The adventurous part of him, he likes to call the Tookish style, because his mother's last name was Took, and her family was basically made of adventurers. Bilbo's father's last name was Baggins, and the Bagginses liked to be lazy and eat a lot. In his adventure he felt Bagginsy a lot. Bilbo is also very brave, for example when he goes up to three huge Trolls to explore for the dwarfs. He is very brave when he does that, because when I say huge, I don't mean huge, I mean HUGE about four times his size. This example is at page 34.

Charlie Bone
By: Jenny Nimmo
345 pages
Charlie Bone is just an ordinary boy, a normal boy with dreams and wishes. With hopes to complete stuff we would too. One day Charlie discovers he wasn't really who he thought he was. He was different, but not in the way we would call "normal". Not quite as he expected either. He started listening; he started listening very carefully, until he figured where the sound came from. The pictures on his wall, and the ones hung upon the great shelves, even the ones in the albums, tucked carefully and thoughtfully in a cupboard. From that moment on, his life was turned up-side-down, which changes Charlie's perspective on everything. To the suspicious side.
The characters in the book I am reading are not described by visual appearance. Other than that, Charlie is a very suspicious boy, he wants to know everything about his crazy family and descendants. An explanation of Charlie's way of feeling is this example on page 31. This is the conversation of Charlie and his mom.
' "First, I want to know what really happened to my father," Charlie said. "Tell me again."
"I've told you so many times already, Charlie. It was foggy, he was tired. He drove off the road and the car plunged into a quarry, it was a hundred metres deep."
" And why aren't there any photos of him around? Not one."
Later in this chapter Charlie discovers his grandmother wants to keep his father's photos away from Charlie because of her guess he would have the power he had gotten. (hearing pictures.)

The Invention of Hugo Cabret
Brian Selznick
Pages: 526
The main character in my book is Hugo Cabret. He is a young French boy who lives in a clock in a station. That is his job. He works the clock everyday to make sure everything is at the correct position. He loves working the clocks. But it reminds him a lot of his father, who died in a fire. It makes him feel sad. When he finds the old machine, he feels like he has to fix, it feels like it is the only part of his father that is left. Whenever he gives up on the machine, he hears his father's voice "Fix it. Fix it, Hugo." That is why he never lets it go away from his mind. In order to fix the machine, he has to use his father's old notebook, which had everything. Sadly, the mean storekeeper steals it from him. Hugo knows he has to get it back. He is afraid the storekeeper might burn it, as he said he would. But there is a person helping him: the storekeeper's granddaughter. She will make sure he will not do it. But is she telling the truth? He doesn't think so when the following happened " But as soon as he took the handkerchief, he understood what he had been given. His breath caught in his throat, and tears began to form in his eyes as he undid the knot. Hugo touched the ashes and then let them fall to the floor with handkerchief. He staggered backward. All of his plans, all of his dreams, disappeared in that scattered pile of ash." which is located on page 137-138. Hugo knew he had no person to help him. His glimpse of hope vanished. He thought he could trust the girl. He was very depressed and knew he could never fix the machine. He could never unlock the secret message the machine would write. He wanted to cry as hard as he could. He wanted his father to be there.

Heaven Eyes
Main Characters
Title Of Book: Heaven Eyes
Author: David Almond
Number Of Pages: 233 pages
Number Of Pages Read All Together: 138 pages
So far in the book, I read the part when Erin, January, and Mouse escaped from the orphanage with a raft on the river. Then, they past a river called "The Black Middens," an oily, muddy, black, river. They were scared that the raft could sink but then, a girl named Heaven Eyes saved them. Heaven Eyes speaks really weird. When she first saw Erin and her friends, she asked, "Is you my long lost brothers and sisters?" She asked them because Heaven Eyes thought that they were her long lost siblings. Then, Heaven Eyes told them to follow her to where she lives. In the place that she lives, there is an old man and Heaven Eyes called him grampa. He is also really weird like Heaven Eyes. He is VERY protective to Heaven Eyes and will do ANYTHING for her and to find her long lost siblings. He also digs a lot, in the mud to find treasures. Now, Erin and her friends are staying with them. Heaven also tells Erin about her dreams. Heaven Eyes says that in her dreams, she feels like a ghost and there are also other people there and they looked nice and kind. Also in her dreams, she feels like there someone whispering her the name "Anna." I think that the people or ghosts inside her dreams were Heaven Eyes's family. I also think that maybe her real name in Anna.
In my book, there are two main characters. Erin Law, an orphan that escaped with her two friends, January and Mouse. Another main character in the book is Heaven Eyes. She is a girl that saved Erin and her friends from the Black Middens.
Erin: Kind, brave and adventurous. She loves her mum and she also talks to her but Erin is the only one that can see her mum. It doesn't tell in the book about her appearance but I think she looks like her mum. She has very pretty red hair, and green eyes. -Pg. 23
Heaven Eyes: Nice, but very odd and weird sometimes. She has webbed fingers and watery blue eyes and a pale round face. She also has blonde hair. -Pg. 53 She will discover later, in the book about her hidden secrets and her real name.

thinking and on the last 10 seconds he got it. From page # 40 “Ryan’s head
shoot up from his hands and his eyes winded as inspiration hit him full force”.

The main character in the book Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is as you can guess Indiana Jones, also known as Indy. He is a professor at Princeton University and an adventurer. His assistant Short Round was caught by Indiana when he tried to pick pocket him, but Indiana's whip was really fast and had caught the kid. Indy is really smart and this is proven because he knows a lot of facts about history. Another personality trait that Indy has is that he is brave. This is shown when Indiana saves Willie even though there are bullets flying all around the Obi-Wan club. Indy hates when someone complains and cares only about themselves.
Example of a personality trait sentence-bravery: Indy jumped out from behind the statue, ducking and covering his head to avoid the flying axes.

The main characters in my book are three kids from the MacGregor family. First of all we have Heather, she is fourteen years old. Then we have Ryan, he is twelve years old. Finally we have Chris, she is seventeen years old. Ryan's personality trait is that he is not keeping the secret when they went diving really deep that they were without air in the oxygen bottles and that they saw some people chopping away at some coral. He said that to the governor and his parents were really upset with him: "we were diving today, we saw two guys chopping away at some coral". I found the quote in pg.35. The personality trait of Heather is that she is really calm and never gets in trouble. She said: "Let go at the wall R.O, let go". And finally the personality trait of Chris is that she always listened to the directions and she has to keep her brothers calm, saying: "ok mom we are pulling anchor now. see you in thirty". I found the quote in Pg.20.

The Borrowers-By Mary Norton
The Borrowers, by Mary Norton, 200 pages.
The main character in the book "The Borrowers" is Arrietty Clock, who is a fourteen year old girl. Although the story is all about the Clocks, Homily, Pod, and Arrietty, she is the one on whom this story is focused on. Arrietty is a very pretty girl. She has long, curly, chestnut-brown hair. Arrietty loves adventures, and she is very eager to start burrowing. Her mother, Homily is, unfortunately, against Arrietty going out to "Their" world, and getting "seen" by human beings. (As explained in my previous blogpost, Borrowers CANNOT be seen by human beings, for that is a very bad thing to happen.) Arrietty is a very brave girl as when all other girls are cautious and keep law profile, she cannot help being adventurous! She is actually silly! For example, when she gets "seen" by the boy, one of "them", instead of being scared and careful not to be"seen" again, she befriends the boy.

Title: Brothers Below Zero, Author: Tor Seidler, Pages: 137. The main character in this book is Tim who goes to seventh grade. Tim is very caring and protective of the people he loves. One example of how he is protective of the people he loves is that when his younger brother starts talking about his aunt Wilfrid of how she is fat and other things he stood up for her and said that that is not the truth and that he is exaggerating (Example is on page 7).
