The Invention of Hugo Cabret]
Brian Selznick
Pages: 533

This book is about a boy name Hugo Cabret whose father one day found an old machine that would write a note. His father and Hugo worked on it. One day, his father was working on the machine in the museum when a fire started. He didn't make it out. He was sent to live with his uncle who is a drunk and is not friendly. His uncle showed him how to work clocks so Hugo could do his job which was to control a clock in a train station. Hugo was lonely. One day, Hugo was walking along the street where the burned down museum was when he stumbled along the little machine. He took it and decided he would finish it, for his father. But it is not easy. There are many problems in his way.
On page 50 the word skidded is used in this sentence: "The little blue windup mouse Hugo had taken fell from his hand, skidded across the counter, and landed on the floor with a crack." Skidded means slid. Example: My cat  skidded across the floor as my dad dashed after her.

  1. Wow! But the machine writes a note and Hugo's dad found it, right? Did it break? What do you mean they worked on it? Anyways I think Hugo is very talented at engineering.
