the conflict in this book is first between the horse and alberts father cause alberts father absolutely  hated joey (the horse) but when he sells joey he has a change of heart he apologizes and says he is sorry but as soon as alberts father leaves albert comes himself to see that joey has already been sold and after that heartbreaking moment joey goes to the real conflict the war begging to rage in France.
