The Invention of Hugo Cabret
Brian Selznick
Pages: 533

What is the conflict in my story?

In my story, there are series of conflicts. First, his father died. Then, his uncle is missing so he is hiding from the station guard because if he finds out Hugo has no guardian, he will be sent to an orphanage. Lastly, the old storekeeper took away Hugo's fathers notebook, which holds the instructions to fix the automaton. I think the last problem is the biggest. He is trying to find a way to get it back. Luckily, the old storekeeper was the godfather of a girl, Isabelle. Isabelle agreed to help Hugo as long as she gets to see the automaton
Hugo doesn't really want to show her it, but it is the only way to get the notebook. Hugo showed her the automaton and saw a necklace hanging around her neck. It was a key. He looked on the back of the automaton and saw a key hole in it. He took it and put it in. The automaton sprung to life. It started to draw. It drew a moon with a bullet in the eye and on the bottom of it, it wrote Georges Melies. Isabelle was amazed. That was her godfathers name, the storekeeper. They are now trying to figure out what it means
