The Borrowers, by Mary Norton, 200 pages
The themes of the book, "The Borrowers", are prejudice and freedom. In the book, there is a human boy who had seen Arrietty. The Boy is prejudice because he thinks Arrietty is silly, and he keeps insisting that Arrietty is the last borrower in the world left.
"No one will ever believe I've seen you. And you'll be the very last because you're the youngest. One day, you'll be the only borrower in the world!" (page 92)
Soon he realizes that it isn't nice to be rude to someone because of their size. He quickly apologized and they are friends again.
Freedom is the second theme of the book. Arrietty, Homily, and Pod crave for freedom. For safety. In their home under the kitchen, any loud noise they make could result to them being discovered. They really want to live somewhere safe, where they do not have to be extra careful each time they move.
These are the themes of the book, "The Borrowers".
