This novel takes place in Molching, a fictional town which is located in Germany, right outside of the real city of Munich. In the story Liesel Meminger, who is the main character, has to move to this town in order to go live with her new foster family. Almost all of the events in this story occur in this town. This story occurs between 1939 and 1943 and during World War II.
