Mark of Athena | By Rick Riordan | Setting

The book I'm reading for my book report is called the Mark of Athena, it is from the The Heroes Of Olympus series. Which is by Rick Riordan, this is the second series of the books; the first is the Percy Jackson series. The setting of this book is in Camp Jupiter, which is in San Francisco, California. This is a camp for demigods of Roman gods. There is another camp for demigods of the Greek gods. That one is called Camp Half-Blood, but in this book the characters don't go there. When they go to Camp Jupiter, they are trying to get to know the Romans and make peace with them, since they had a bloody past and they needed each other if they were going to defeat Gaea, the goddess of the Earth. That doesn't go so well and someone on the Argo II (a warship built for the battle with Gaea and the giants) becomes possessed and they fire at the romans. That is at the start of their quest.  Near Camp Jupiter there is a place called New Rome and that is were roman demigods can live their lives normally in peace with Camp Jupiter protecting them. So they flee and head to Rome, which is were the hard part of their quest starts. They spend the rest of the time in Rome.

A quote to prove that the demigods visited Camp Jupiter and New Rome is:
“Annabeth,” he said hesitantly, “in New Rome, demigods can live their whole lives in peace.”
Her expression turned guarded. “Reyna explained it to me. But, Percy, you belong at Camp Half-Blood. That other life—”
“I know,” Percy said. “But while I was there, I saw so many demigods living without fear: kids going to college, couples getting married and raising families. There’s nothing like that at Camp Half-Blood. I kept thinking about you and me…and maybe someday when this war with the giants is over…”
It was hard to tell in the golden light, but he thought Annabeth was blushing. “Oh,” she said…
“I’m sorry,” he said. “I just…I had to think of that to keep going. To give me hope. Forget I mentioned—”
“No!” she said. “Gods, Percy, that’s so sweet.”

A quote to prove that the characters were travelling to Rome is:
“We still should have enough time to reach Rome.”
Hazel scowled. “When you say should have enough…”
Leo shrugged. “How do you feel about barely enough?”
Hazel put her face in her hands for a count of three. “Sounds about typical for us.”

A quote to prove the character were in Rome:
“They would find this House of Hades. They'd take the Doors of Death. And by the gods, if Leo had to design a grabber arm long enough to snatch Percy and Annabeth out of Tartarus, then that's what he would do.

Nemesis wanted him to wreak vengeance on Gaea? Leo would be happy to oblige. He was going to make Gaea sorry she had ever messed with Leo Valdez.

"Yeah." He took one last look at the cityscape of Rome, turning bloodred in the sunset. "Festus, raise the sails. We've got some friends to save.”

I'm on page 458 out of 574.  KF
