Life of Pi Article #3
The Life of Pi
The
story I am reading for my book project is called the Life of Pi it has 354
pages and was written by Yann Martel. It tells about how Pi Patel survived on a
sailboat with a Bengal Tiger for 227 days. The book is based on true happenings in the
past.
Through his journey Pi stumbles upon many
obstacles. Pi is forced to fight for life with a tiger
during his journey to shore. There are those people who fierce will to live
and will overcome every obstacle to succeed this is truly Pi. There's
a quote by which I believe Pi Patel lives by. “That which does not kill us makes us stronger”
- Friedrich Nietzsche
Throughout Pi’s odyssey on the Pacific Ocean he
withstood the dangers of the ocean and weather. He was
faced with dehydration, starvation, blindness, loneliness while trying to
maintain hope and the will to live. Pi was faced with mental obstacles he had to bare
with the death of his family and the decision to kill another animal.
Divergent -Obstacles-
I read a book called “Divergent” by Veronica Roth. This book
has 489 pages.
Throughout the book, Tris Prior encountered many obstacles
that interfered and changed her life, as well as her understanding of what’s
right and what’s wrong. These obstacles
became part of her life and growing up. These
obstacles include her parents’ death, Jeanine Mathews’s plan to overthrow the
faction in power and change the order in the society and Dauntless Initiation.
The main obstacle that changed Tris and her parent’s lives is
the conspiracy plot of Erudite and their leader Jeanine Mathews to overthrow
the faction in power (Abnegation) and change the order in the society by Erudite
making alliances with the Dauntless leaders. The plan involved using the
Simulation Serum in order to overcome the enemy and speed up their defeat. Tris finds out about this threat to the
society and feels responsible to help. She knows that her actions can save the
people and the society she once knew as her home. Therefore, she decides that
she must stop the Simulation Serum and defeat Jeanine Mathews’s plan.
Another obstacle in Tris’s life, on a more personal level, was
the tragic death of her parents, which itself came as a result of Erudite plan
to overthrow the government. For the purpose of defeating Jeanine Mathews and
Erudite and for the purpose of saving the society, Tris’s father and mother
both sacrificed their lives. This was a
personal loss and defeat of Tris and had a huge impact on her life. The main
issue for her was whether her parents’ life was worth less than the society.

There is 384 pages in this book.
Obstacles
Having to choose to stay with the family or to help defend the world from buggers (aliens). He was given a choice to stay with his family or to defend the world when he was extremely qualified for the job, as tested by the Space force army in the end he decides to go with the army, into space. Another thing is when he shows superiority in skills at the school and totally destroys the others in mock combat (the people are 5 years older). One of them tries to kill him, so that Ender wont mock him anymore.

In the story "Saxon Tales" the protagonist, Uthred has to reach many difficult decisions and is faced with betrayals by close friends. For example, Uthred was relaxing in his hall, when a horseman appeared and asked if Uthred wished to join the Danish force of vikings that were pillaging England. An hour later, another horseman arrived asking if Uthred wished to join England's defense. In the end, Uthred sided with the Brits. Afterwards, a slave Uthred rescued became king and needed troops. Uthred and Guthred (The Slave King) become close friends and so Uthred offers Guthred his soldiers, however Guthred said he needed more so he begged Uthred's uncle, Aethelred. Aethelred despises Uthred and so in return for his Aethelred's fighters Guthred must sell Uthred into slavery. These are some examples of obstacles Uthred faces in his adventures.

Accomplice - The obstacles the protagonist goes through
The title of my book is "Accomplice". The author of the book is Eireann Corrigan. The book has 296 pages.
The two protagonists in this book are Chloe and Finn. They go through some big obstacles throughout the book. The best friends Chloe and Finn decide to stage a kidnapping so they will get more attention. In the beginning it's a bit confusing weather they are the protagonists or antagonists.
They had to of course figure out how to hide Chloe (the victim). Then they had to be very careful so no one would find Chloe. People would think that Chloe had actually been kidnapped, so they had to make sure that no one would figure out that they were staging the kidnapping. All these things are hard to do and it slows down what they are doing. Later on when things happen that they did not think of or expect they get even more obstacles. For example, innocent people start getting arrested, they empty their lake. They also have to lie to reporters and their family about a very big deal, which is not always easy.
So, in this book the protagonists, Chloe and Finn, go through some big obstacles.

Touching Spirit Bear: What are the obstacles that the protagonist goes through?
The protagonist in this book, as you might know if you read my previous blog, is a 16 year old boy called Cole Mathews. I have read 112 pages so far and that just concluded the first part of the book. Now will come the second part. The author is Ben Mikaelsen. With that out of the way lets talk about the obstacles that the protagonist of this book goes through...
Cole Mathews is, as we know, a 16 year old boy who has committed many crimes. With only that said we could think of law as an obstacle for him. The law sent him to an island where he would be all alone and learn how to behave better. On that island he faced a lot of obstacles so far. Since he is all alone and there is no human on the island, the only possible obstacles that could come would be from nature and the animals. That was the case! But, it wasn't only nature that put out the obstacles that Cole needed to go through. Cole didn't realise it, but he also contributed. The first thing he did when he came to the island is try to escape by swimming. Nothing happened because while swimming he didn't move at all because of the waves. He was exhausted and came back to the island. Cole needed to rest on the beach because he burned down his shelter down before. It was all because of anger. From that moment everything went downhill for him. Cole went unconscious and nature "attacked" with constant rain. Not only that, but the spirit bear appeared and Cole did a really stupid by trying to kill it. The bear attacked and won the battle against Cole. He had almost no chance of surviving. He had a lot of broken bones and couldn't even move. With the rain it was even worse. We will see how he overcomes his struggles on the island in the continuation of the book.

Protagonists's hardships in Shivers - Ghost Writter
Shivers - Ghost Writer
M.D.Spenser
I've changed my book and in this book the main character is Amber Elliston. She is 12 years old and loves her life. It's hard to imagine that people who love their lives still face hardships in life but it happens even to the greatest of souls, so why wouldn't Amber face hardships. She did face hardships and here they are.
First she has to move to a new town which means leaving her friends, next she sees crazy scary things and her car runs into a tree in her trip to Jackson, Georgia. Once she is there she gets pranked by her brother. Later that night she sees an old witch, she later discovers that that witch is really her aunt Ms. Mc Afee. She goes deeper into all of this and discovers secrets that were beyond imagination of the reader and the main character herself.

Obstacles the Protagonist Goes Through-Swallows and Amazons
Swallows and Amazons
351 pages
Arthur Ransome
The obstacles that the protagonists have to go through in the book Swallows and Amazons are all because of Captain Flint. That is why the four adventurous Swallows team up with two tomboys the Amazons in alliance against the hated Captain Flint (who is also the uncle of the two Amazons). Captain Flint is the antagonist in the story because he keeps blaming the four innocent Swallows for messing with his houseboat (which he stays in in the summer) and he has the entire area believing that they are the guilty ones. For example on the day that the Swallows set sail to their 'desert island' early on in the book they saw the captain waving his fist at them as they passed. He told every body that the Swallows had set of fireworks off on his roof, but in reality it wasn't them. Events like this go on for a while until Captain Flint's house boat is robbed! The boat was completely turned upside down with his important work stolen. For the crime he blamed the Swallows again, even though they are innocent. To prove themselves innocent they have to find the stolen treasure and return it. These are the main obstacles, but the four children also had some problems with the Amazons during all of this...
The Swallows had some issues with their allies before their alliance. The Amazons started of as enemies before they managed to get together and talk with the Swallows. The Amazons were also the ones that caused all these major problems for the Swallows, they were the ones that stole feathers from Captain Flint's houseboat, they were the ones setting of the fireworks on his roof but they were not the ones who stole the important work. Along with raiding the Captain's houseboat they also raided the Swallows camp and tried to shoot them with their arrows, for the two tomboys were the first ones to stay on Wild Cat Island (the island were the four Swallows were staying) and wanted to keep it to themselves (even though they were not there at the time the four were staying there). But luckily the new campers had enough sense to talk their problems out instead of fight, and that was when the alliance against Mr. Flint was formed.

Savvy blog post #2 OBSTACLES
Savvy
The book I
read savvy was a great book the author is Ingrid
Law I finished reading this book and it has 341 pgs.
Obstacles:
From this story I
can recall 2 major obstacles the Protagonist Mibs had to overcome. One of the
obstacles would be her dad having the terrible car accident putting him in a
life threatening coma. The thing that makes such a tragedy is that it is a day
right after Mibs the protagonist most special 13th birthday making
it really unbelievable and hard for her.
The second:
Obstacle is that Mibs just had her 13th birthday meaning that she
would get her savvy/super ability and since her dad just had a tragedy she
really wants to help out, “I wouldn't blame her because I would want to do the same for my dad”. So as she sleeps, she dreams that
her power will most definitely be a power that can save her dad's life. So she got
so confident that she sneaks out into a bus that she assumes will take to the
location of her dad hoping to use her savvy on him to save him. But the bus wasn't really heading to her dads location which is Salina Hope Hospital instead
the bust goes somewhere else and something happened on that bus ride that
changed all the lives on it. But all I can say is that it was on that bus ride
that she learned that her savvy was the ability to talk to people made of ink so
basically talking to tattoos was her savvy.
"If you want to find out the life changing event on the bus read the book"
