Victor Flores is the main character/protagonist of the story. The antagonist in of the story are the police.
Victor Flores is a very trustful boy. Victor's dad passed away a few years ago in the book. Victor now is the man of the house. He doesn't do anything like leaving the country unless he asks his mom. Victor has a friend that is totally the opposite of himself. He would leave without telling his parents. But he told Victor. Victor's family is very poor. They don't have much money. They sell some things that they grow in their garden. Soon in the story its becoming colder. They won't be able to sell anymore things. So Victor asks his mom if he could leave the country and look for a job. That way he could send back the money to his family like his father used to.
The police in the story are very rude. Victor leaves his family to get money. But he only leaves the city. He is going someplace else with a bus. The bus stops and the police went in. They checked everyone if they had their Passport. Victor didn't know that he needed the passport. When his father went away from his family to get money he didn't need his passport.
