The Golden Compass

I have read 89 of the 399 pages of The Golden Compass. The Protagonist in the novel The Golden Compass is Lyra, and the antagonists are Gobblers. The Gobblers are creatures who abduct children, and as one of Lyra's acquaintances claims take them away in a white van, after a child has been taken by the Gobblers no one ever sees or hears of them again. Lyra is an 11 year old girl, she is courageous, curious and brave. Lyra's daemons is named Pantalaimon, Pan for short, and her best friend is Roger, the kitchen boy who she goes on countless adventures with.
Is it a good book? I have it but have never read it... I seriously should!
