“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.
- Atticus Finch” That is one of my favorite quotes in the book. It's suppose to tell you that courage isn't just because someone is holding something dangerous doesn't mean that he has courage because courage comes within.

SMOKY
THE COWHORSE
By
Will James
The book Smoky the Cowhorse received the Newbery
Medal in 1927.This medal is named after a British bookseller John Newbery. It
is awarded every year by the American Library Association for the best
published children’s book.
Will James was born in 1892 in Canada. He began
drawing animals (horses and bears) at the age of 5. He left home at the age of
14 to become a cowboy. He was a strong and skillful cowboy and the others
cowboys liked him because he was a good story teller. Will James was in jail
for a while because of steeling cattle. He spent most of his time in jail drawing
horses and himself as a cowboy. After jail Will James combined his drawings,
stories and cowboy dreams and soon became a popular writer. In 1926 James wrote
and illustrated his most famous book, Smoky the Cowhorse.
