The author of Holes is a man named Louis Sachar. Though now he is a successful author of books such as Sideways Stories From Wayside School and There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom he didn't take an interest in literature until high school and says that he was inspired by J.D. Salinger and Kurt Vonnegut. Sachar has a degree in economics and during his time at university he worked at an elementary school to earn college credit. Later he found himself spending days working at a sweater warehouse and nights writing. After being fired, Sachar went to law school and upon finishing law school he began writing full time.

I love the book Holes. After your blog post I learned much more about the author. I always thought he was just interested in writing... I really like it :)
