Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone

Hello all,
The book i am reading is Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. It has won the smarties award which I will explain about later in the post.

Author: J.K. Rowling
Pages Read: 228/228

Harry Potter is an 11 year old boy. His parents died when he was 1 and ever since Harry has lived with muggles.  Muggles are people who are not magical.  Harry got a letter from Hogwarts, School of witchcraft and wizardry.  His uncle burned the letter before he could read it.  In the following days there coming many more letters to Harry. His uncle couldn't take it anymore so Harry, his uncle, his aunt and his cousin left Private Drive (Where they lived).  They lived in a shack out in a lake before a huge Half Man-Half Giant appeared.  His name was Rubeus Hagrid and he had come to deliver the letter from Hogwarts personally.  In the letter it said everything he needed for school so Harry and Hagrid went shopping for a wand, a cloak, a book etc. Harry found out that his parents had left him a huge fortune. He used this fortune to by school supplies.  When Harry was at the train station to go to his train he didn't see the station 9 and 3/4.  He heard someone say packed with muggles so he asked the family that said it to show him station 9 3/4.  They told him to run through the wall in the middle of station 9 and 10.  Harry ran and before he even noticed he was at station 9 3/4.  At the train a boy named Ron Weasley asked to sit in Harry's cabin.  Ron and Harry became friends after a while.  At Hogwarts Harry and Ron both went to Griffindor which was a common room.  On Halloween Harry and Ron saved Hermione Granger from a Troll.  Together they found out that there was a three headed dog that was guarding something.  At the end of the year they got past the dog and into the dungeon it was guarding.  There were many tasks and Harry, Ron and Hermione did one each and some together.  Harry did a task where he had to catch a key that led to a door which led to another task.  Ron did a task that was really weird,  he played giant wizards chess and fainted while being hit in the head by the white queen.  Hermione did the last one where she had to understand logic. The riddle was

Two of us will help you, whichever you would find,
One among us seven will let you move ahead,
another will transport the drinker back instead,
Two among our numbers hold only nettle wine,
Three of us are killers, waiting hidden in line.
Choose unless you wish to stay here for evermore,
To help you in your choice, we give you these clues four:
First however slyly the poison tries to hide
You will always find some on nettle wine's left side
Second, different are those who stand on either end,
But if you would move onwards, neither is your friend;
Third, as you see clearly, all are different size,
Neither dwarf nor giant hold death in their insides;
Fourth, the second left and the second right
Are twins once you taste them, though different at first sight.

As you might guess Hermione guessed correct and Harry got to the dungeon while Hermione went out. In the dungeon Harry saw Professor Quirrel standing by a mirror.  When Quirrel asked Harry to step up into the mirror he saw himself holding the Philosophers stone.  Quirrel was mad because he lied to him and tried to kill him.  The scary part is that Voldemort was stuck inside the back of his head.  When Harry touched Quirrel it burned his skin and he turned into ashes.  Harry was really sad when Griffindor got last place in the house cup.  Amazingly Harry, Ron and Hermione gained 160 points for Griffindor.  While they were tied with Slyterin,  Dumbledore gave one last pair of points to Neville Longbottom who had tried stopping Harry, Ron and Hermione from going to the dungeon.  Griffindor Won first place and they hadn't won for 7 years.

The award this book got was the smarties award.  This award is for British children books.  Harry Potter won gold for kids age 9-13 I think in 1997.  J.K Rowling totally deserves this award because Harry Potter is one of the best books I have ever read.

Thank you for reading,
Bye-Bye
