Title: The Running Dream

Author: Wendelin Van Draanen

332/332 # pages read

The book I read this week was The Running Dream. The main character in this book is 16 year old Jessica Carlisle. Jessica is a runner as it said in this quote," I am a runner. That's what I do. That's who I am." page 6. This book has won the Schneider Family Book Award and really good reviews. Jessica is athletic and strong. She is kind and hopeful. But she wasn't when she lost HER LEG! A tow truck crashed into their school bus and now Jessica's life is turned upside down. How could a truck crash into a bus? The driver was drunk, the brakes were bad, and he had no licence. She feels completely overwhelmed until Rosa, a girl with speech problem who is paralyzed from waist down gives her hope. Now she is speaking for both Rosa and herself. Later on Jessica is able to walk and later run with a "fake leg" but Rosa will never be able to cross the finish line. At one point on a news cast, she snaps and tells them, ".. it's to have people see her and instead of her condition."page 307. There's so much to eplan yet so little TIME! If anyone wants to find out more, READ THE BOOK!
