The Book Thief Setting!

Hello!
This is my blogpost on the setting in the Book Thief (the book I am reviewing), Molching.
I have finished the book, all 583 pages. I enjoyed it much, and am currently rereading it. It is just as emotional as the last time I read it! Everyone should read it, as far as I am concerned. It is really amazing, and totally unique.
Good news! There is going to be a movie made out of the film! It comes out around Christmas. I can't wait!
Molching is a fictional town, in wartime Germany. it is believed to be named after, and based on the real town on Olching. Molching is the home of our protagonist Liesel, most of the other characters, and the plot. It is extremely important.
"Quite a way beyond the outskirts of Munich was a town called Molching, said best by the likes of you and me as Molking" (Zusak, page 26)
In the beginning Molching is completely apart from the war, but towards the end, tragedy strikes and the war gets ever closer. Jewish marches become a common appearance in the town, and these are extremely depressing, making the mood very tense. Since it is a place in Germany, everyone is required to follow Hitler, so a lot of the people are anti-Semitic.
There are a lot of secrets going around, so not everyone is not completely trusting in each other. Still they are brought together in hard times, when having to share basements when there is an upcoming air-raid. Also they all feel each others pain when tragedy strikes, as an empathetic group of people.
Most of the action happens on Himmel Street, where Liesel lives. In German Himmel means Heaven - 'Who ever named Himmel Street certainly had a healthy sense of irony." (Zusak, page 26)
The author continues to describe Himmel Street ... "The buildings appear to be glued together, mostly small houses and unit blocks that look nervous. There is murky sow spread out like carpet. There is concrete, empty hatstand trees, and grey air". (Zusak, page 27)
Liesel would grow up there, and love it very much, though it wasn't much to the eye.

Bye, and thank you for reading!
