The Mourning Emporium by Michelle Louric

The book I am currently reading (I also plan to do it for my Book Project) is called the Mourning Emporium. It is historical fiction. I am on page 369 out of 385 pages. Before telling you about the protagonist I will tell you a short summary of the book so far.

This book all starts in Venice where a huge flood has struck. It has flooded all the streets of Venice, injuring and killing many. It has also mysteriously banned all the famous paintings from Venice including many other Venizian Monuments. There can only be one reason. Bajamonte Tiepolo, the man thwart with baddened magic has deathly plans to take over Venice and eventually the world. He began his plans a year ago, but the Undrowned Child and the Studious Son somehow managed to defeat him. They are the protagonists in this book; Teo and Renzo. This book is filled with suspence, magic, and suspicious events. It includes Teo and Renzo having to experience the not-so-peaceful boat ride from Venice to London with the ghastly Ms. Uish, who claims to be working for Queen Victoria, herself. When Teo and all the other boys on the boat finally arrive in London, after many adventures aboard The Scilla they discover Tiepolo's further plans for London's ruin.

One of the protagonists in this novel is Teodora. She is, according to a prophecy, the Undrowned Child. She is a very short girl with rather long hair. She is extremely brave and is ever willing to save Vienna and London. As she is the Undrowned Child, she has some abilities. One of them is that she is able to, when someone speaks, see their words above them in a specific style. This comes in handy when seeing if someone is portraying themself differently when they speak. She can also turn invisible, but only when it great danger. Then, only children and ghosts are able to see her. As I said before she is extremely brave and the following quote proves it.

'A corpse, that's what Teo thought. 'He will be sure his beastly Vampire Squid have killed me too. That is my one advantage now.'
' ,Teo or Michelle Louric,' page 318

This quote, said by Teo, proves that Teo can survive anything and still have plans for the future. One of Bajamonte Tiepolo's creatures, this time a giant squid, had attacked her. She somehow survived and instantly started thinking how to complete her plans of saving London.
