Author- Island of the Blue Dolphins

Hi everyone, its me again and today we are going to be talking about the author of Island of the Blue Dolphins, Scott O'Dell. I will tell you some interesting facts about him and such. Shall we begin!

SCOOT O'DELL was perhaps one of the most popular writers for young people ever! He was a Newbery Award Medal Winner, a three time Newbery Honour Book winner, a two time winner of German Jugendbuchpreis, winner of deGrummond and Regina medals. That is the highest international recognition for children book authors. He has written Island of the Blue Dolphins, Zia, and Sing Down the Rolling in the Mountains.

Those are just essential some basic things about Scoot O'Dell. That a is why I will now tell you some interesting/fascinating things about Scott O'Dell. Here it goes.

He died at 90 years old in 1989
1. He was born, and was given a name Odell Gabriel Scoot but while he was working in the Los Angeles Daily News(newspaper), and editor mistakenly wrote Scoot O'Dell as his byline instead of his actual name. That name stayed and Scoot O'Dell legally changed it afterwards.

2. Before becoming an author he was working in Hollywood as a cameraman and technical director. Amazing, right?

3. Scoot O'Dell attended many colleges including Stanford University, Occidental College, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Rome La Sapienza

Fascinating, right? I was really amazed when I found this out, and I think you too were amazed. Who would have thought that after being a cameraman he would become one of the most well-loved authors for young people!
