Isalnd of the Blue Dolphins

Hi everyone! This is me again and now I am back with an another summary. This time I will tell you about the a book called Island of the Blue Dolphins. Let's not waste any time, let's get right into it!

Firstly, I will tell you about the books award. This book has won a John Newberry medal. Most of you probably heard of such award and know that this type of award is is really prestigious and recognized around the world. They won this award "for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children." This award is given annually by the Children's Section of the American Library Association. Fun fact about the newberry medal is that it was originally proposed to the Children's Section of the American Library Association by Fredric Melcher in 1921.

Now, a bit about the book itself. I am just going to summarize what I read so far, and that is six chapters. This book is about a girl called Karana that is on an small island. On this island there is one village. Everything looks fine and the people of the village and Karana are having a normal life. That all changed when Aluets(russian hunters) came to the village. They came in peace (as they said) and were just wanting to hunt for some otters. The village leader ( Karana's dad) made an agreement with the Aluets  that they can use a part of the island as a camp. In exchange the Aluets will pay the village. A week passed and the relationship between the Aluets and the village turns bad (argument). At the final argument Karana's dad and the Captain Orlov (leader of the Aluets) face of. That resulted in many deaths- including Karana's dad. The hunters leave with their otters...

This ending of chapter six really makes me read more and I can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the book. Hope you enjoyed reading!
