I am reading a book called "Goodnight Mister Tom", by Michelle Magorian. Michelle Magorian is an English author born on 6th of November, 1947. "Goodnight Mister Tom" has 304 pages. This book is about a 9 year old boy from London who evacuated to the countryside because Britain was about to go to war. He is taken into custody of a kind, old man named Tom Oakley, who treats him as if he were his own son.
"Goodnight Mister Tom" is a well known book which won the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize in 1981. The prize is awarded for the best fiction book to be read by young adults and children. To win the award, the book must have been published first in the UK. The winners are selected by three children's fiction writers, including the winner of the latest Guardian Children's Fiction Prize.The prize is worth £1,500. This award is the only children's fiction award selected by fellow writers. The award was founded in 1965 by the Guardian newspaper and was inaugurated in 1967. Previous winners are not allowed to enter.
Other awards that this book has won include the International Reading Award, the South Carolina young adult book award and the author was also a commended runner up for the Carnegie Medal.
