Refugee Boy

Refugee Boy is the book that I am reading for the book report. The author of this book is Benjamin Zephaniah. This book has approximately 300 pages.

The main characters in this book are Alem, his mum, his dad and the well-known bully.

Alem is a peaceful young man, but even after the harsh realities that war brought to his life, he continues to follow his beliefs of love and peace. Alem usually acts the same way he thinks. Alem has a bunch of worries but he will never respond to them in violent ways.  When Alem moves into a foster home a well-known bully tries to make Alem give him his food, but Alem stands up to him. Although the bully attacks him, he does not want to fight. Even though his mother had died he still protested to stay in the country, he still tried to stick to his ways. Alem is an intelligent, peaceful boy who knows how to stay calm in extremely emotional situations which greatly helps him to hold to his morals and beliefs.

Alem's mum wasn't described a lot because she had died near the beginning of the book. Alem's mother is from Eritrean. She is very kind but worries and had died during the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia. She gets shot.

Alem's dad is fro Ethiopia and there is a war there and at his wife's country so they are welcome to neither place. Alem's dad had brought Alem to England to protect him from the war. He had made Alem live with a foster family until he got back. Whilst Alem was with the foster family his dad had gotten shot in the war.

The bully is a well known-bully and tries to bully everyone. He asks Alem to give him Alem's food but Alem says no. That make the bully want to attack Alem and he does. The bully is very mean and rude but thinks that he is like the king of everything.

  3. That was really well done. You can see that you did not just rush it and only do one person because you didn't feel like it. You described a lot of the characters and Alem in great detail. Good job.
