For Persephone the main character the conflict is both internal and external. She is a member of the Crosses and Nought and Crosses do not mix. She is pressured by her parents and her school, because her father is a politician she must constantly act perfect. Because she is dating Callum a member of the Noughts she must constantly hide her relationship from her father.
