NATION
TERRY PRATCHETT
404 PAGES
The book I chose for the book report is Nation by Sir Pratchett. The main problem the main character, Mau goes through is the series of events that occurred after the tsunami. He has to rebuild the Nation.
When Mu is on his way back from the Boys Island a tsunami strikes many islands including a important one called the Nation, his island. It kills everybody and destroys everything on the island. But as it quotes on the cover of the book "When much is taken, something is given" the tsunami also brought a large trouser-man ship onto the island. The only survivor is this young girl.
The main problem in the book is the problem of Mau, rebuilding the Nation. Some of the main obstacles Mau has to go around are passing through depression, he has to keep himself and companions alive and defend his islands pride.
In the beginning of the book Mau is incredibly depressed, his family is dead he (thinks) he is alone and his home is in ruins. He would have killed himself if not for the girl that came on the boat. At the beginning he was not aware of her appearance. But even after he meets her he is still mentally scarred and a bit mad.
When more people arrive he has the duty as chief, to keep them alive. One of his feats to save them
/himself was when he had to fend of the Raiders. (A tribe something like cannibal, non-merciful people.) When they attack the Nation all goes well (for it was practiced and planned out until the chief to chief fight, where Mau must fight a gunned and armed man with a spear. It shows his bravery. This was only a fraction of the feats he did for the Nation. I chose this one because it speaks
about Mau's character.
This book is all about rebuilding the Nation, there is no clear climax. It is just lots of little occurrences that make up a nation .

ReplyDeleteI really like the book you chose and i also like that it has something to do with survival
ReplyDeleteSounds like a really interesting book. I like books with a lot of survival in it. That could be the next book on my list after a couple of others. Have you finished the book yet?
