Terry Pratchett-Character

Nation
  Terry Pratchett
403 pages

The book I am reading is called Nation, by Terry Pratchett. The main character is Mau (boy shown in picture above).
Mau is a tribal boy that lived on an island, the Nation quite happily. Then he was sent to the Boy's island. When you come back you become a man. On his way back to the Nation from the Boy's island a tsunami raged over the ocean. When he comes back to his home he finds that that the tsunami had came all the way to the Nation. Nobody was left alive and he did not become a man.
Mau is a tall, big chested, skinny but strong boy. He shows how strong he is on many occasions. One of my favorites was when he has to fight the chief of the Raiders ( pages 344 to 350). He hides underwater for ages and then leaps out of the water with a big heavy axe and smashes it into the chiefs chest. He is a caring, hard working but a soulless person. He is a very caring and respectful person, he proves this on each and every page he appears on. The first time was when he found the dead bodies of all his friends and family on his island (pages 32 to36). He carried them very carefully down to the ocean and buried them in the traditional way. He did the same with the dogs as well. Later (after some more people arrive on the island) whenever they were in danger or such he would risk his own life to save them. For example when a girl from the book had just been saved by him (from drowning), she was nearly freezing to death so he made a fire and wrapped himself around her even though he was in a poor state too (pages 79 to 83). He would even kill himself to help. Like when he saved an old priest from the sharks by throwing himself in and taking the sharks attention of the priest (pages 193 to 200). He is hardworking but soulless because he left his boy soul on the island but never got his man soul, but anyway in the pride of the Nation he guards all night, does everything that needs to be done to the maximum level and does not rest. This is his weakness.
