Setting:
This book is talking in 3 person meaning that it talks in the past and about Mafatu. The one setting in this story is when Mafatu goes on a island. The island is very lonely except the people who eat other people. The island has a lot of grass and green. I has a little mountain or a big hill where when you climb it you can see the whole island. He got to that island by going with a canoe sailing wanting to show his friends he is not afraid of the water anymore. Many adventures were going on in that time by falling of the boat.
Character:
In this book there isn't many characters, main characters. The one and only main character in this book is Mafatu. He is a 14 year old boy that lost his mom on a ship that drowned. From then Mafatu is scared of the water. It is his biggest fear. Moving on to the other character his dog Uri. The dog really likes Mafatu and always sticks next to him. While Mafatu goes on a journey he finds many sea creatures underwater that he fights with. Mafatu also has a other pet a albatross that also follows him very much. He does find people on the island that he got there with his canoe.
