Figgs and Phantoms by Ellen Raskin

The climax of my novel is when Mona goes to Caprichos, the dream of a dead pirate or where her family believes you go when you die. First she sees a pink palm tree. Then she walks into a jungle with creeping and crawling snakes. She finds out she has the ability to imagine things and make them come true.
Mona wanted to come to Capri (heaven) so she could find her uncle. She finds a city and goes to the theater. There she sees Uncle Florence playing the piano, while his wife sings. She wants to talk to him but a pirate stops her. The pirate lets Mona meet Uncle Florence but doesn't let her tell him who she is.
Mona has researched so much about this place her family calls Capri, only to find her uncle. When she's in the jungle it's scary and the reader is worried about Mona. She doesn't know where she is and to every slight sound she reacts curiously hoping she heard Uncle Florence.
