Figgs and Phantoms by Ellen Raskin

The protagonist in my story is Mona. She doesn't go along with her family very well.
The people who live in the town of Pineapple are the antagonists of my book. They always tease the Figgs. Mona's mother is from the Figg family and her dad is a Newton. So now they are even making a separate the Figg from the Newton campaign. They make fun of Mona's mother, Sissie Figg for being a dancer, especially because she's a tap dancer. Mona has an uncle that is very smart and one that likes to talk a lot. People of Pineapple make fun of these . She also has an uncle that still grows, though he's an adult, but is still four feet six inches tall. The worst of all is that his name is Florence Italy Figg.  The people of Pineapple make fun of him the most. They say Mona is ugly. They don't understand how Newt Newton could have married a Figg.  Mona doesn't tap dance like her mother but the people of Pineapple are sure she's a Figg.
The problem is that the Figgs, Mona's family, are different than everybody in town and so everybody teases them behind their backs. Every Figg has some sort of problem. But everybody has flaws. People are not sure if Mona is a Figg but now they decided that she's got many flaws that are just like her uncles'.
