The Other Side of Truth by Beverley Naidoo

The Other Side of Truth - Beverley Naidoo

The Other Side of Truth is a children's fiction novel about two Nigerian refugee children abandoned in London and left to fend for themselves. This book has won the Carnegie Medal in the year 2000.

The protagonist in the story is Sade Solaja, a 12 year old girl who narrates the story. When her mother was shot dead, her father, fearful of their lives smuggled her and her younger brother, Femi into London and left them alone, to survive together. Sade is very strong, both mentally and physically and she is very protective of her younger brother and takes care of him. She is a very likeable character and provokes empathy.

I'm not entirely sure who the antagonist is yet but I believe it is is society, the government and the ways of the world.
