Holes

Climax
The book that I am reading for my book report is called
“Holes” by Louis Sachar. This book won the John Newbery Medal.
The climax of this book is when the boys in Camp Green Lake
get into a fight because of Zero, one of the boys in Camp Green Lake. It all
started when Zero and Stanley made a
deal that Stanley would teach Zero how to read and write but Zero to dig part
of Stanley’s hole each and every day so Stanley would have energy left to teach
Zero to read and write. It was going well every time with this deal until the
other boys in Camp Green Lake had realized that Zero was digging Stanley’s
hole. The other boys which we Zigzag, X-ray, Armpit and Squid complained to
Mr.Pendanski, one of the counselors about Zero digging Stanley instead of
Stanley digging his own hole for the day. The boys got into a fight because no
one (even the Warden, the owner) believed that Zero had learnt anything from
the days Stanley was teaching him.
After the fight, Zero hit Mr.Pendaski with a shovel and ran
away from Camp Green Lake that night. When the Warden found out that Zero has
run away from the camp, she told all the counselors to delete all of Zero’s
files and forget that Zero was ever at Camp Green Lake. Zero running away from
Camp Green Lake can be jeopardizing. He was just a young boy, he
couldn’t have found water anywhere, no shelter anywhere, so how is going to
stay alive, Stanley was very worried about Zero which led to Stanley also
running away from Camp Green Lake. While he was running away, he was very tired;
he had no water in his canteen. It was the hottest part of the day when he ran
away so that made it even harder to find Zero. Stanley did not know where to go
or whether he should continue or not. While he was walking, he spotted a boat
which he found Zero in. He was very happy to find Zero because he thought that
Zero would be dead by the time he finds him. Zero survived by drinking a type
of liquid that he found under the boat in plenty of jars. Zero called it
sploosh. Zero’s body was very sick which made his stomach hurt. He would fall
on the ground, clutching his stomach. That made Stanley very worried.
Zero didn’t want to go back to Camp Green Lake, so Zero and
Stanley went to the “Big Thumb” which was pretty far away. It was a long
journey to The Big Thumb. The Big Thumb is a very big rock where Stanley and
Zero think that they would find water, food, and refuge. On the way, they had
to climb mountains and walk very long which made it very hard for Zero because
he was so sick. They fed themselves by digging into holes for water and eating
plenty of onions they found on their way.
