Private Peaceful, Post 3

 Hi guys, whats up?

I have finished the book Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo, all 202 pages of it (like I said last time)!
Here is a picture from the film of the book:

Comment:  I saw that some people commented that this book is a very sad book considering all the deaths that occur in the book, but I think that the ending of each of those events are so nice and understanding and not dramatic at all that it just makes up for the sadness that had happened.

The main character is Tom he is a nice boy but bad luck hits him all the time, he is the protagonist because he and his family has pushed through many tough moments in their lives and kept their head held high which has done them good at the end. They don't really describe Thomas in the book but all they say is that he has a bright smile and that he is good looking.

A quote " Y'ain't a coward, are you?
No, old woman, I am not, I am not..." (page 146)

The main antagonist is called Colonel, he like the owner of the family as when the dad was still alive he worked at his great mansion along with the whole village. When the father died since the Colonel owned their little house he was threatening to take away their house unless someone from the family started to work for him. Since the children were still too young to work the mother went and started to work for the Colonel's wife as her lady's maid. Luckily the mother liked the wife and the wife liked her so when she died they could keep the house for a little while without working for them because that is what she wrote in her will.  After a little while the oldest son started to work for the Colonel and then Colonel fired him so then he and his youngest brother worked on a farm to raise money so that they could keep the house. Last but not least he said that he would kick them out of the house anyway if the two sons don't go and fight in the war for a year.    I cannot find a good description of the Colonel's physical features except for that he has whiskers.

A quote from the book about the Colonel, is: "Is the old duffer putting us out then?..." (page 39)
