Setting and Characters

Book: The boy in the striped pajamas
Author: John Boyne
Pages read:213/213

Setting: (Part of)

Here is, I personally think the most important setting in the story. It is the so called "Out-With". After living n the glorious city of Berlin Bruno moves out side of and urban place. He is told that the reason of the moving is his dad's job. Bruno, a little bit spoiled, starts whining about his new house.Until one day Maria the made enters his room to take his clothing so that she can iron it. Bruno asks her, " Do you like it here?",she answered that it is not important. The talk goes on and when Maria leaves the room Bruno says out-loud:"Father is so Stupid!". Maria turned and, said that that is not true. The argument goes on until Maria tells Bruno her past that she held secret. She explained how Maria's mom knew his father from a very small age, since her mother had been working in his father's family. When he grew up, Maria's mom grew sick, and Bruno's father payed for the medications and later for the burial. The protagonist is Bruno and his family while the Antagonist is the Nazi regime. The next part find out yourself!

Characters:
The protagonist is Bruno and his family while the Antagonist is the Nazi regime.

Here are the 3 most important characters and their attributes:

1. Bruno

Bruno is a very eager and willing to know kid, and he is nine years old. After moving to the "Out-With" he becomes spoiled and very sad. After the surprising talk with Maria he begins thinking about the house his father, and his hole family background.

2.Maria

She is a quiet, and hard working person that is always on task. She met Bruno at the age of three, and all those years she kept her background a secret until that decisive day.

3.Gretel

Gretel is Bruno's older sister. She is often described as the "Hopeless case" do to her negative mental attitude. She is not mentioned a lot, and I cannot tell you what later happens in the book, so find out yourself !

Here are some more interesting/unfortunate facts on the Holocaust:

1.On April 1, 1933, the Nazi (Social, democrat party) started their first action verses the Jews. They boycotted all Jewish ran businesses.
2.The worlds biggest ghetto was the Warsaw one, numbering 445,000 people in March 1941.
3.Although many people refer to all Nazi camps as "concentration camps," there were actually a number of different kinds of camps, including concentration camps, extermination camps, labor camps, prisoner-of-war camps, and transit camps. http://history1900s.about.com/od/holocaust/a/holocaustfacts.htm
4. An estimated 7.5 million Jews where killed during the course of the Holocaust.
5. Poland lost 90% of it's entire Jewish population in world war 2
