Except the preface every chapter takes place in the present. The preface is a dream of a young king called Lord 6-Dog.The king lives in Mayan period.

Max and his parents live in Boston. Max's parents are archaeologists and after receiving the permits they announced to their son that they are heading to Central America. Max is upset that his parent are not able to come to see his drum solo at the school performance. He was supposed to stay at home with Zea, their housekeeper  the whole summer. After couple days his parents have gone missing. Before this happened they communicated with their boss via radio and the Boss told Zea to buy to Max the plane ticket to San Xavier, to join them.

As he arrived to San Xavier it was heavily raining and before he got to the arrival hall he was soaked to skin. He did not see his parent there. Nobody knew where his parents were.He felt very lonely.

But suddenly he saw a little man observing him and the little man asked him:"Mr. Max, is that you?"

The little man said Max that they have lost the radio signal with his parents in a jungle ...
