Title: Princess of the Midnight Ball

Author: Jessica Day George

#272/272 pages read

There were many main characters in this book, but I have decided to list only 3 for times sake. The antagonist, as you probably know by now, was King Underground, who is selfish and evil, cold hear ted enough to even sacrifice one of his own sons. He was not entirely human, as it is stated in the book, " Because he had once been human,....". He has long white hands and, " ... his long silver hair hanging down either side of his skeletal face,...". He has kept the 12 princesses of Iona under the curse of their mother, feeding off their power each night as they danced, gaining strength. The protagonist is Galen, the under-gardener who was once also a soldier. He is almost 19 years old but, " ... his face was tanned from long long hours of work in the sun, and there were even a few lines at the corners of his eyes and mouth. His hair was very short...". He was kind and took time to pick flowers for each of the 12 princesses. He was also brave enough to risk his life to save the princesses from their curse. Not only that but he also went against his uncles wishes and his only home too. Last but not least is Rose, the eldest of the 12 sisters and at the age of 16, almost 17, looked a lot older and grave for the cursed weighed heavily upon her. She had " ... long golden brown hair..." and fell in love with Galen from the moment she saw him. She was always apologizing to her sisters  for everything and had a kind heart. She felt responsible for everything since her mother died but "... sometimes the burden was too great." . This was a man vs monster since King Underground was not human. Wow.
