The Hobbit - Post 2

I am reading 'The Hobbit' by J.R.R. Tolkien for my book report, as I said before, and I read 60 pages out of 351 pages.

The main characters of this novel were pretty much Thorin and his company, which or who were; Bilbo Baggins (as I said before), Gandalf the Grey, (from now on the dwarves) Thorin Oakenshield, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Fili, Kili, Dwalin, Balin, Ori, Nori, and Dori.
Bilbo was a hobbit, who were jolly, happy, and small people, and they had big furry feet. They had curly hair, and a little round in the belly. They like bright colors, and they lived in hobbit-holes, which had round doors and more than one door. They all lived in Hobbiton.
Bilbo was a very polite and quiet hobbit, and he came from a very respected family, the Bagginses, and that's what made him very quiet and polite. But he wasn't completely from that family, and the Bagginses were his paternal side. His maternal family - side - were the Tooks, who were greatly rich and very adventurous. That made them less respected than the Bagginses, but they were famous for their adventures and richness. The Took's ancestors was the great Bullroarer Took, who was big for a hobbit, and was very famous. Possibly because of that, Bilbo had something in him, something that didn't come out until he was 50 years old, which made him go to the journey with the dwarves.

Gandalf the Grey, or just Gandalf, was a great wizard, and he was one of the five wizards. He was a Maiar or Maia, who were spirits who descended from the Undying Lands. They were created before the creation of Arda, basically the world. Maiars were meant to come down to help the live things of Middle-Earth. Each Maiar had a god or something like that it belonged to, and Gandalf belonged to Manwë and Varda. Gandalf's Maiar name was Olórin.
Gandalf "wore a tall pointed grey hat, a long grey cloak, and a silver scarf. He had a long white beard and bushy eyebrows that stuck out beyond the brim of his hat." (Lord of the Rings Wiki and The Hobbit).

The Dwarves

Thorin Oakenshield was one of the dwarves of the Kingdom Under the Mountain, Erebor, or the Lonely Mountain, and his company, who were Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Fili, Kili, Dwalin, Balin, Ori, Nori, and Dori. Thorin was one of Durin's Folk, or Longbeards, along with some of his dwarves.
He was one of the dwarves that survived the great battle and the disaster Battle of the Five Armies. Some of the dwarves that survived the battle were Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Fili, Kili, Dwalin, Balin, Ori, Nori, and Dori. Thorin was the grandson of King Thrór, King Under the Mountain, and the son of Thrain, Thror's son.
Thorin got the title or name 'Oakenshield' because in the Battle of Five Armies, he broke his shield while fighting with one of his greatest enemies, Azog the Goblin, and used a piece of oak wood instead of a shield. He won Azog, and the dwarves won the battle, but most of them died in the battle, leaving only a few dwarves alive.
Therefore, Thorin was a very important dwarf, and possibly because of that, he liked saying long important speeches, and would probably go on until he was out of breath unless he was disturbed. He wore a sky-blue hood with a long silver tassel.

Oin and Gloin were also one of the dwarves who survived the Battle of the Five Armies and who were Thorin and his company or the dwarves who joined the quest for taking back Erebor from Smaug the dragon. They were one of Durin's Folk, and they are both brothers. They are both known for lighting fires very well. Oin and Gloin were cousins of Dwalin and Balin, and Oin wore a brown hood.

Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur were not Durin's Folk or Longbeards, but they were some of the survivors of the battle (The Battle of the Five Armies). They decided to help Thorin his company to take back Erebor, and joined the quest. Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur were cousins. Bofur and Bombur were brothers, and Bombur is described as being poor, fat, foolish, and being the last for everything.

Fili and Kili were Thorin's nephew, for Thorin was the older brother of Dis, their mother. They are brothers, and they joined the quest to take back Erebor, and joined Thorin and his company. They were the youngest dwarves of the company. Fili had the longest nose in the company, and Fili and Kili had both yellow beards. They wore blue cloaks. Because they were the youngest, they had the sharpest eyes of Thorin and his company.

Dwalin and Balin are brothers, and Balin was the older one. They joined Thorin and his company to take back Erebor. They are both Durin's Folk. Dwalin wore a dark-green hood with a golden belt, and had a blue beard. Balin  had a long white beard.

Ori, Nori, and Dori were also brothers, like some of the other dwarves were. They are some of the dwarves who joined Thorin and his company, and they are some of the Longbeards. Ori wears a grey hooded cloak with a silver belt while traveling, and Nori wore a purple hood. Dori usually wore a purple hooded cloak, and it is known that he grumbles a lot.

For some of the main characters, there weren't a lot of information, so I used one more source, and there weren't a lot of information even in the other source, so I couldn't write a lot of information or had some missing information for some of the characters.
