This novel is about a girl, named Tally, who lives in a completely different world compared to ours, and in that world on your sixteenth birthday you get an operation where they turn you into a pretty, once you get that operation you go to New Pretty Town, where you have no other job but to have a good time. Peris one of Tally's friends has already turned pretty, but another one named Shay has decided to run away and be and ugly forever. On the day of Tally's birthday, these people called special circumstances, come and pick her up at the hospital just before her operation, to inform her that her friend Shay has ran away to some place called the Smoke, and that they need her help to find Shay. Once it is made clear to special circumstances by Tally that she does not want to help them find her friend Shay because she promised her that she would not tell anyone her location, but there is a problem if she doesn't tell them where shay is they will not make her a pretty, and there are two reasons why she has always wanted to be pretty, one because she promised Peris that they would be pretty together and two because being pretty is all shes ever wanted, so now Tally has to make up her mind will she help special circumstances find Shay, or will she never turn pretty. This amazing novel takes place in the future. In this novel I have read 174 pages out of 425, and all of those 174 pages were full of excitement, danger, and betrayal.
