Title: Princess of the Midnight Ball

Author: Jessica Day George # 272/272 pages read

I have read the book Princess of the Midnight Ball for my book report. If you have read my first post, you should know that this is a retelling of The 12 Dancing Princesses. Although, I left a lot of things out. The setting of the story is a made up continent based on Europe called Iona. The Queen of Iona made a "deal" with Understone, who was only thought to be a story to scare the children, for a heir to the throne, in return she would dance for him for 12 years! Instead she gets 12 daughters that now have to bear her deal after her death. You can tell that this story is based on the past because electricity is still unknown and the clothes the people where are old fashioned. Also they still believed in Witches. The mood of this story is very mysterious because the princesses's curse is unknown to anyone else, even their father. It does not fully tell the year but the story begins in late summer and ends almost months later in spring. The weather is what you would normally expect but the story itself is completely breathtaking.
